New and looking for info on ncs moves
Hi! My husband just got word that he will be coming there in August so needless to say I am looking for information!! We are considering coming NCS and we have 2 children ages 8 and 5. I would love to hear from some others how you dealt with the school issue and if anyone had problems getting medical care for their dependents. Thanks in advance!!

Re: New and looking for info on ncs moves
I don't know much about the school, from what I understand the elementry has lots of room, but don't quote me on that. You can contact the school and they'll give you info. I have had no problems with medical care. I went in to get the Tri-Care straigtened out and 1/2 an hour later I was in a dentist chair getting a check up! Couple weeks later I was in getting my wisdom teeth out. I could have gone in earlier but I wanted to enjoy Christmas. Point being I haven't had any problems.

Re: New and looking for info on ncs moves
Hi, Shansean!
I'm sorry I missed your post! As mike said, there's tons more info on the NCS thread! As far as kids, I'm here with my 9 year old. As Kristen mentioned, I have yet to hear of any kid being turned away from the DoD school this year.. -however-..I can't say that without the caveat of stating that there are definitely no guarantees for school admission..it -is- Space A,and very dependant upon the fluctuation of population, not just of the military community but of the contractor community, as well. By the time you arrive, things may be completely different, it's impossible to predict how things will play out. My advice would be to be cautiously optimistic, but also be prepared to homeschool if the need should arise. If you should have to homeschool, there is a -very- active homeschooling community here, so there's a great deal of support and help. I also know that many homeschoolers use the school facilities such as the library , gym,etc...and even attend one or two classes there, with little or no difficulty...so there's definitely support in that arena too. I hope this helps! I would -highly- encourage you to hop onto the "NCS" thread that mike mentioned, you will definitely find some great info there. Dee :) |
