Re: Questions about KAIP

Has anyone heard about AFPC delaying approval of KAIP applications, because they are trying to cut costs and blah blah blah. I find this hard to believe and think that the guy that told hubby that is lying out his butt to cover up the fact that he hasn't been doing his job properly. Anyway, does any know anything about this, whether it's true or not?

Re: Questions about KAIP

I get this question all the time.....I work in TMO so I can help with this thread....

Initally, you get a Follow-on (FO) assignment. To "keep" the follow-on, you promise not to ship anything at gov't expense (except your shipment to Korea) and if you are single, you are allowed to place stuff in Non-Temporary Storage (NTS). If you are married and do place stuff in NTS, then it is up to TMO to send a letter to MPF telling on you. Well, personally, I have better and more important things to do than send letters to MPF...unless of course the customer was a complete jerk, than I will personally hand carry letter to MPF and ensure the follow on is cancelled.

OK, so you decide to take KAIP. Your FO will more than likely get canned. Now you can place stuff in to NTS at Gov't expense.
What about the money you already paid for storage?
-You will have to request through your last base TMO to authorize reimbursement for self procurred storage. It is all dependent on the TMO. There are a few factors that apply. I might post a "template" letter here as an example if I get time at work tomorrow.
If the TMO doesn't allow reimbursement, you can still get your stuff picked up from your storage facility and put in NTS at gov't expense. Make sure that you have your extension for KAIP to ensure you get your stuff in NTS and cover the entire time you are in Korea or you will have to back track and supply that at a later date. If you don't supply it, you will have to pay for the second year you are in Korea while the stuff is in NTS. So save yourself a headache and get something in writing from Korea MPF that you are KAIPed and will remain in Korea until XXXX date.

PAKS2....you will get a bill. ECAF takes about six to eight months (most of the time) after delivery to figure out the entire shipping bill. Hope you elected the 10% by surface option or you will be paying big money. Sometimes it may take longer with the peak moving season.

Hey, Kris!

I haven't heard anything specifically about KAIP, but I have heard that due to budget cuts and other issues, that a lot of programs, including applications for command sponsorship are being delayed. So, it's -possible- that it could be something AFPC is doing.... it could be a 50/50 on that one..and the only way to know, I guess would be to find out from AFPC, or get someone else involved in the issue..

Gosh, you guys have been waiting for about the whole time you've been here, haven't you? :) The way things are going, you -may- find out before you're supposed to leave here!

I'm so sorry you're having this kind of frustration..

Dee :)

Sounds like it's just about time to throw the IG flag on this one...and you might want to consider going to the 1st shirt and/or commander, as well.

This issue has been mishandled from day one, almost it seems, it's long past time for you to get some answers.
