Re: Seeking Help to bring spouse NCS

Let see for detailed go to the very long NCS thread but the run down is basically this....Well get a passport, get a visa from the Korean consulate before you leave, buy a plane ticket. When you get here go to one of realty offices outside the gate (I like Korea Realty, they are very good) pick an apartment in you allotted range ( go to https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/ to look up what you are allowed, and the realty places off base know the correct amount it seems) then go to the housing office and file all the papers (you may have to have you apartment inspected but I'm not sure, I think I remember hubby saying the guy told him he didn't have to since we were NCS) if you need the deposit money they can advance it from your pay, and the first months rent is given to you 2-3 days later via EFT to the bank. Make sure the wifey gets a SOFA stamp, and you go with her to get a ration card. I think that is it really. Save up as much as you can before you get here, mostly for "just in case the military screws me over" and things like the cable deposit (I beleive it was 80,000 won) water for the water cooler, gas, electric (I can't remember if there was a deposit for that) and food for the fridge. Also make sure you have money to stay in a hotel for a couple days maybe Turumi if they have room or one of the places off base until you get the apartment since you can't get the paperwork done until your wife i in country. I really think thats the short version, make sure to read the other thread though even though it long, it has a lot of good info.

Re: Seeking Help to bring spouse NCS

LOL..By Jove, I think she's got it!

Breeeeeeeeeathe, Kristen, breeeeeeeeeeathe!

No,wait you have a few more months before that! :)

And I don't think we had a deposit for the electricity.. but if you don't have city gas, and have gas heat, you may have to buy a tank (cost varies depending on the cost of gas.. and you can get it tax free from one of the base companies, a realtor can refer you).. and if you use propane, for your stove, a tank of that (about 25.00).

Welcome, apophis, I'm dee, it's good to have you on board, feel free to ask if you have any questions,we'll certainly try to help you out..

Be sure to check out the NCS thread!

And old-timers..here's a question for you..since we've gotten a lot of pages on the NCS thread that are pretty laborious for newcomers to work through, what would you think of us brainstorming and coming up with a single page article or something that we can post that sort of condenses everything?

I'll be happy to write it up, you guys know me...but I specifically need input on pet pcs's..and about the Army NCS experience.

What do y'all think?

Dee :)
