I'm about to enter negotiations with AFPC on my follow-on.

Does anyone have any experience or lessons learned from dealing with or being burned by AFPC so that we can all learn from them?

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to negotiate to get your desired follow-on?

Well on the Army side (same stratogy), be nice to them. Start of by asking him/her if they have the time to talk or call back later if they are busy. Ask them what they have open for your rank and what your job is, Also throw the notion in there "well what if I FSTE for somany months" will that open anything else up for me?

When your on the phone with him/her get straight to the point and don't BS "much".

Little things like that have always worked for me, I have gotten all my assignments I've wanted.

Biggest thing is be nice. Do you have more than 1 branch manager? We had 2 a SFC and a civillian. Everyone hated the civillian but me and him got along perfect.

We just fille dout the form with 8 choices.
Less than a week later we were told we have orders to the base that was on top of our list.

We thought there was going to be some kind of "discussion" But that was the whole of it.

I recently applied for my follow-on, but there were no negotiations. The big thing to keep in mind is whether your choices have positions available for you to return to. I ran into this problem myself. I want to come back to the DC area but there are no openings for my career field (2E271). I had to pick Ft. Meade since they were the only openings for me. I still listed the DC area on my preference sheet since I'm trying to work a special duty follow-on where you are chosen by name to fill the slot.

Unless you are a SNCO, don't call...they will not talk to you. If you are not a SNCO, get with your SNCO to make the call. They have AFPC Assignment's approval to call on your behalf. Most will not even talk to you if you are not a SNCO.

One game plan to play is find out what bases have the slots available for your AFSC and rank. If you can get that far, you can list those bases on your worksheet. Don't try to go to Hawaii if the slot isn't even there.

and how do i go about finding the current manning levels of our AFSC at a certain base?

You can find the authorizations for each base by skill level in AMS. But as far as finding the information on which one of those positions are filled...FOUO data. You will have to get that from the assignments manager or by talking to the respective flight chief at the base you are looking at.

I don't know if the situation is different at all for officers, but my AFPC functional assignment mangaer who was in charge of my assignment to ROK asked me what I wanted as my follow-on. So I told him my #1 choice, and he said they will put me on the list and try their best.
My big question is...
"How can I get my follow on assignment (Germany) writen in my orders by MPF?"
