Re: Voip Questions -Again
I'm very curious about VoIP on the base... my cousin will be leaving for Osan in a few weeks and I want to get him a VoIP line to take with him, but I don't want him to get there and not be able to use it. But if I get one for him he'll at least be able to use it until June for sure, is that right?

Re: Voip Questions -Again
I just wonder if this old info coming up again. It's my understanding that the issue is closed. According to the agreement, if you live on base, you have to use a Korean VoIP unless you were grandfathered in.

Re: Voip Questions -Again
So when was the cutoff date for being grandfathered in?

Re: Voip Questions -Again
It was this past June. If you look at my first post in this thread I have a link going back to the Bell Sends message covering the agreement. I just don't see how they know who is grandfather in and who isn't.

Re: Voip Questions -Again
Hmmmm... so I guess I shouldn't get him the phone then... at least not until he gets there and can check it out for himself and decide. I'm just bummed because he has a wife and brand new baby girl he has to leave behind for a year and I really wanted this for them (it's not just VoIP, it's actually video too)... grrr...

Re: Voip Questions -Again
Send it......I find it hard to believe that they can block vonage? That means Korea would beable to block any website they don't want ?????
The only way they may do it is have Vonage block any incoming overseas IP address......Thats not going to happen...

I'd go ahead and send it too.

Re: Voip Questions -Again
Okay, Thanks! I think I'll get it ordered today. I really appreciate the help and look forward to seeing elsewhere on the forums as I learn more about Korea and Osan... and hopefully you'll see my cousin on here soon too, I think it will be a great resource for him... :-)

Re: Voip Questions -Again
Thanks again to everyone who advised me on this. My cousin left for Korea a week and a half ago and since then we've been able to talk to him (and see him) on the phone I sent with him... it's been great... and the local US number makes it so his wife can call from her cell phone too. Isn't technology amazing???
