Volunteering for Korea

Hey,
I was wondering if there is a way to volunteer for korea before my DEROS. My assignment is currently Aviano Italy. I love the travel here, but i think it's just not for me. Too expensive is one reason. I really really enjoyed my time at Osan. I would love to get there before my DEROS because it is 2 years away. Is there any way possible?? Maybe volunteer for a special duty or can I just volunteer to get back early??

Hi, there !
What is DEROS ?
And what is Aviano ?
Did you come here to travel ? So, what did u feel in Korea ?
I was just wondering that. Korea is my country.
Somtimes, I look at a foreign traveler on the street.
I envy them because it is my dream.
I will travel alot of countries someday.
But I still no time and no money. I have to work to live here.
I have to work every day very busy. But I will leave a traveling someday like you. I will go around here and there and then I will get back to my home.
And I will ready my last to go God.
It is my dream.

Best Regards.

Re: Volunteering for Korea

I saw your post on the 3C website. I'm a 3C also. It's really hard to get out of an OCONUS assignment prior to your DEROS. When you accepted the assignment, you agreed to server the entire tour. I assume it's a 36 month deal. You could volunteer for a special duty, but I doubt they would look at you prior to you DEROS. I could think of a lot worse places to be! Good luck.

Re: Volunteering for Korea

DEROS means 'Date Eligible for Return From Overseas'
Aviano is an air base in Italy, which I have heard is a pretty nice place. Even if it is expensive, I'd only go off post a couple times a month. I've learned a long time ago to budget my money, even while I was in Korea.

I've traveled many countries myself, you'll enjoy it shsong21. Try going to Thailand, airfare isn't that much I don't think. I went there for 4 days in 2001 and loved it.

Re: Volunteering for Korea

That sucks. Well the real main reason I want back so bad is my girl is there. We plan in the near future to get married. (not a juicy haha) Would it make a difference if I was married??

Re: Volunteering for Korea

A pm is a private message. If you look at the top of the page under your name. You should be able to read the message.
