Whoever said "skype is too expensive" is an idiot. Vonage is 25 bucks a month, that's 300$ a year, although it's unlimited calling. Skype (the skypeout option) is 3$ a month. You get your stateside number, and can pick the area code too. Calls are about 2 cents a minute back to the states, and no charge for incoming calls. At that rate, you'd have to call outgoing over 1000 minutes a month for it to be more expensive than Vonage. And the plus is, if you deploy *gasp* you arent being billed monthy @ 25 bucks for a service you cant use. Your credit is waiting for you when you return.

I put 20 bucks of credit on my phone about 1 time every quarter, or even 4 months, and call back stateside quite a bit.

As for not being able to sit at the pc or having to sit at the pc... USB headset/mic costs all of 10 dollars if you want to make your calls infront of the computer. Or, they do sell skype phones for a resonable price at aafes or wallmart.
you make a good point but not everyone likes Sykpe. I used it in Iraq and when I frist got back from iraq and I just dont like the way the calls sound. True you can even get the phone I have seen them they look just like a regular Phone. And I put alot of mins on my phone i think I talk on the phone About 200 mins a day just about every day so that gives me about 6000 mins or so a month some times I talk more but on AVG 200 a day so vonage is the way to go for me.

But you may not talk on the phone as much as the other person does. As well they only give you your AREA code of Choice. Well I know in Texas just cause you are in my Area code does not mean that its free to call me. so then the person I would be calling would be coming out of pocket to call me. that and I talk over 7000 mins a month that bout 240 mins a day about 3 1/2 hours. at 2.1 cents a min I would be paying 15 or so bucks a month so it almost the same..

Tthis is how you fix vonage in Korea. Pass it on to all you know who have Vonage and who are in Korea!!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vpw44l80w4

One of my husbands soldiers was complaining about his being blocked. So, they're starting to hit Humphreys now.

Re: Vonage now officially BLOCKED in 1 dorm

Nearlywild, thanks for the video. It will most likely come in handy for those that had vonage. It appears that the guy hooked a router between the cable modem and the vonage box as opposed to having the vonage box directly tied to the cable modem. By the way, my magicjack works fine. I'm surprised because I run it concurrently with slingbox (streaming video), email and the internet. I'm glad our technology has advanced.... Anyways, I just had to let anyone that may be considering the magicjack.

Re: Vonage now officially BLOCKED in 1 dorm

I know someone at Osan who bought a router and did the same thing as demonstrated on You Tube and got shut down again Sunday night. The router idea worked for about three weeks before it went out again. I don't know how they did it but many others in his unit got shut down at the exact same time.
