Osan Concurrent Travel Policy

As of 1 Aug 2005, BGen Reynes directed an end to command sponsored concurrent travel because of the demolition of TLF. The command sponsored military member will arrive first, set up home, then call for dependents.

Me being the rebel that I am. His directive never mentions non-command sponsored folks. So I may just ask for non-command sponsored concurrent travel. I wouldn't be in violation of his order.

Cheers,
Chuck

I remember when the TLF was torn down. I had to help jump Bear's dead car or else it would have been smashed!

Osan is building a ton of base housing. Soon, there will be very few offers to move off base.

Chuck,
Yeah, you can ask for non-command sponsored concurrent travel, whatever that might be. Since you aren't command sponsored, you won't be given tickets for your dependants' travel to Korea. Since it's on your dime they can travel whenever you please. Travel together, travel separately, either way the move will be a difficult one. Reach out to your sponsor and get the help you need. If you don't have one yet, contact your gaining commander or first shirt and let them know what you're doing. I can't speak for other locations, but if you're Air Force and coming to Osan you'll need your unit commander's permission to reside off-base, regardless of your family's location. Avoid any unpleasantness and let them know what you're doing.

Wilco

I am Air Force and I can't seem to get a break from flying. I'm on a C2 platform and mission plan for 8 hours the day prior to each flight, then fly the next day for around 8 hours. I have seven flights this month...ugh.

I will email my new Sq/CC on Monday. Some of you may know him. Lt Col Bacon??? I've never met him.

Cheers,
Chuck

The latest

I got approval to live off base, but not for concurrent travel. We will try to fly as a family, even if I have to pay for all tickets.

Cheers,
Chuck

One big obstacle gone, three more to go

1. Selling a four year old 2000 sq ft home

2. Selling a 2005 Ford F-150 (only 2,500 miles)

3. Selling a 2003 Chevy Suburban (only 25,000 miles)

- Rent the house. If you're an Air Battle Manager, you will go back to Tinker.

- Ship the Suburban. You're authorized and you'll need a vehicle.

- Sell the F-150

All good ideas

Don't really want to be a slumlord. Just want to get out of the responsibility too. Don't want to worry about who's doing what to my house...and if any repairs need to be made, I have to take the occupant's word on cost of fixes and amount of repair needed. If we go back to Tinker, then we will rent. I would have rented had I known I would only be here 23 months.

Trying to sell the truck right now. Another option is Air Force will store one vehicle for free for anyone doing a remote. They even start the engine once a month and do routine maintenance. They have 36 area centers around the country where the vehilce can be stored. I don't know if I would be allowed to ship the Suburban overseas after I just placed a POV in storage. My guess is...no. Both vehicles are gas hogs and would be a tight squeeze on Korea's roads. Best bet would be to sell both and to get a wonderful ($1200-1,500) Hyundai or Kia in the land of the morning calm.

It also takes 2 months to ship anything from here to there. If I can get groceries with a taxi for 2 months, I could probably do it for the duration. Would be nice to tour the countryside (I could always rent a car for a day to do that).

Thanks for you inputs,

Cheers,
Chuck

Good job

Good guess on the Air Battle Manager. I've had four career fields in the AF and never knew what an ABM was until 1st day at the ABM tech school.
