First Term Airman in Osan
I have a few questions about Osan.
1. ? 2. ? 3. ? 4.What fun stuff is there to do both on and off base? 5. When are we allowed to leave base? Last edited by chucksnee : 11-23-2008 at 10:29 AM. |

Re: First Term Airman in Osan
I had to edit your questions, those are MAJOR OPSEC violations.
Welcome and enjoy, there are a lot of things to do downtown. The curfew is from 3am to 5am on weekends and 1am on work days. Stay within those limitations and you can leave base anytime you want.

Re: First Term Airman in Osan
Basically what will happen is you'll probably do a lot of CBT's the first 2 weeks, along with In-processing. After that, you'll get to do the First Term Airman's Course (FTAC) which is a week of Death-by-powerpoint, and doing some technical stuff.
Once all that is done, you'll easily settle into your new workplace. As was said before, enjoy your time by visiting some local area, take the subway to Suwon and take in a movie at the base theater. |

Re: First Term Airman in Osan
When I was there 6 months ago (dang time flies) there were a couple of AFN spots about not being "That Guy" I think it had a website like www.dontbethatguy.com or something. The people describing the drunk guy always made me chuckle.

Re: First Term Airman in Osan
hey man, just keep this in mind. This base is like NO OTHER BASE in the WORLD. There is no other location where you will be treated quite like this, where you will have as much freedom and yet be treated and spoken too like you 13 again going out on your first date. That is primarly due to people being "that guy." The "that guy" part is the ONE person who is the idiot that gets drunk or acts like a fool and ruins everyone elses fun or privilages. There is a good bit of activities to do but everything cost money. Cabs are about $5 round trip to anywhere on base, and anything else that is not in line with Fitness or Promotion or Volunteering / EPR building will cost you to do. I dont know how old you are but if you are an FTACer then most likely this will be your first exposure to legalized slots, and sometimes that can appear to be your "least expensive" option of entertainment for the night. You need to be aware that those can be addicting (i am speaking from experience here, luckly i hit a jackpot and finished up in vegas instead of down like many others) and winning can be more addicting than losing. The other thing you need to be aware of is that it seems this place is looking to make expamples of people. There doesnt seem to be a lot of sweeping under the rug like there has been at alot of bases i have been at. Its a different feel than anywhere else i have been, just different, not bad just different be prepaired for that and my advice. Live a preachers life. Get out see the area, take tours (which run from $33-$80 a pop) but live a preachers life.
