Cheney accidentally shoots fellow hunter in South Texas

This is too funny!

Quote:
CORPUS CHRISTI - A prominent Austin lawyer is expected to be released from a hospital here today after being accidentally shot and slightly injured by Vice President Dick Cheney during a quail hunt on a South Texas ranch.

Cheney Accident

"All we know is what we read or hear", someone once said. I read on the net that the owner of the ranch was first to report it the next day. She apparently was with the party. If no newspersons were on the private ranch, and it truly was an accident, and you were the VP, and your friend was standing in an area near where you were aiming at a flying quail, would you be running to report it to the world, or would you be more concerned with getting the person help ASAP? The friend's daughter said her dad looked like he had chicken pox! Lucky that he was not very close by, and that he was not hit in the eye, and that the VP's pacemaker probably kept HIM from a heart attack! Competency has little to do with it; experience and safety, yes. It is hard for a shooter to know the whereabouts of every member of the party as he is solely fixed on aiming and following through on a bird. That is why a red hat and jacket should be worn by all. It is a dangerous sport.

Hard to believe there were no newspeople there? If you were the VP and you were going to a private ranch for hunting, could you have as much fun with the paparazzi poking cameras in your face? (Personally, I would be tempted to invite the ones who pursued me daily with a camera to be there, so I could get even by "shooting" at them for a change!)

Seriously, I have years of hunting behind me. I have been the recipient of a few pellets of birdshot, and I have been the man with the gun on one occassion. Three of us were arrested at Osan years ago, when an irate
Senior MSGT sent the AP's to get our hunting party. WE were actually off-base, hunting legally, when a Pheasant flew across on our left, and high.
We shot and bagged the Pheasant. At the same time, some of the pellets, about 1/2 the size of a BB, went on over the hill and fell down on a battery of Snark Missiles, according to the livid sergeant! He heard some of the shot hit "His" missiles! Anyway, we were legal, he couldn't find ONE piece of evidence, and now there is a 'No Hunting on Base" regulation at Osan. If you find the date of that original regulation, you will know the date of our incident! I did mention this once before on the forum, but I'm not senile, yet!

I bet the lawyer shot was anti war, but rather than have the CIA knock him off, they tried to make it look like an accident. The guy had probably uncovered some secret documents about the Cheney oil companies making big profits in Iraq and that was why they had to silence him...

The Times

Where have the good days gone?

What happened to the days where the news was abuzz with juicy items like whether or not the blue dress the FBI was seen carrying out of Lewinsky's place was really going to be tested for presidential sperm or whether this was just an internet journal roumor?

Now, we have to get our amusement watching the press corps in a frenzy pelting the press secretary with heated questions about why the delay in announcing a hunting accident.

What ever happen to the days when we could always turn to news when we were bored about which astrologer Nacy Reagan was using that week to base policy on?

I was going to post this, but it turned out to be "much to do about nothing." The guy shot was a fellow Republican lawyer. You can never shoot enough lawyers!

TV comedians target Cheney hunting accident

More hilarity!

Quote:
TV comedians target Cheney hunting accident
Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Television talk shows took aim Monday at Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental weekend shooting in Texas of a hunting companion. Here's a few of the jokes.

---

"Late Show with David Letterman," CBS:

_ "Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

_ "But here is the sad part - before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor."

_ "We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney."

_ "The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet."

__

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," NBC:

_ "Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear.

_ "That's the big story over the weekend. ... Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent."

_ "I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?'"

_ "Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine's Day. It's the new Dick Cheney cologne. It's called Duck!"

---

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central:

_ "Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird."

_ "Now, this story certainly has its humorous aspects. ... But it also raises a serious issue, one which I feel very strongly about. ... moms, dads, if you're watching right now, I can't emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don't care what kind of lucrative contracts they're trying to land, or energy regulations they're trying to get lifted - it's just not worth it."

There will be some funny skits on SNL for sure! Chenney is a guy that is easy to make fun of. Vice Presidents in general get slammed more than anyone else (Gore, Bush Sr, Quail (sp?), etc). Should be interesting! I have heard the Elmer Fud fud hunting that dangerous rabbit already.

I think many veterans are happy that Cheney took 5 deferments during the Vietnam War.

There are really only two things about the story that leave a bad taste in my mouth. A sheriff arrived at the ranch to interview Cheney and others, but was turned away by Secret Service. Cheney and others gave interviews to the investigators 18 hours after the event. That gave them plenty of time to get their stories straight and enough time to sober up, if need be. The sheriff's office said that alcohol was not a contributing factor, but they never said how they arrived at the conclusion.

The other story that isn't be mentioned is that it was a canned hunt. They weren't shooting wild birds, but farm raised birds released into the wild to be shot. They also shot over 400 birds in a single day, out of over 500 birds that were released by the ranch.

Doutes,

Your assumptions are disturbing and you show your resentment for the administration. You assume they were drunk. Is this from the “unbiased” media were hear so much about? Just a question: does this administration do anything correctly or is do they only break the law and disturb the world. It is sad that you take everything as a lie, but probably believe every thing that comes out of Clinton’s mouth.
