No more "anchor" baby legistlation

There is a bill in the house that has a good chance of being passed. Basically, babies born in the U.S. will not be given citizen ship if both parents are not citizens of the U.S. The goal is to stop people from Mexico from walking across the border, having a child and then gaining U.S. residency because their child is a U.S. citizen from birth. What do you all think about this?

That's a tough one... I have no idea on how to feel of this issue.

But I just get this feeling that it takes some meaning of freedom away from the US.

OUTSTANDING!!! But it won't work.

No way will that pass, espically if Mexico starts talking crap about it. Like now we would be depriving them of "WHO KNOWS WHAT"

Mexico may seem to be the majority of the reason, but I know Koreans do it, too. Every Guam trip I've been to always has a tiny baby on the plane in the return flight. In Los Angeles, Hawaii, Seattle, & Portland, the Korean/Americans (who make tens of thousands of dollars at a time!) have their own "motel" for Korean women in their trimester to stay for the last few months on a tourist visa until their baby is born. Some Koreans even get a student visa and "attend" a college until they deliver.

There are so many ways to "work around" the system...but if you think about it, how did some of our own ancestors become US citizens? I mean what would be the "correct" way to become an American citizen then?

I don't know the specifics of this bill, but they should just change it where the parents don't automatically gain residency; just give the child dual citizenship with a one time chance to choose citizenship before the age of 16 or so. I thought that was how it worked right now; never knew of the parents getting residency.

Anyway, even if this bill is passed, there'll always be a way to work around it then.

Yes everybody race does this, but the majority are mexicans. No other government has made comic books and handed out to the general public that says "go to America and have a great time, don't work and get paid by their government"

That comic book was handed out by the Mexican government to who ever would take it in Mexico.

Yes my Ancestors, may have come from?? Who knows becasue i don't, but they had a different "state of mind" back then. They came here to work and make a living "NOT" to live off welfare.

I don't know, man... I don't think all Mexicans cross the border simply to live off our welfare. I'm sure some actually do; there's always those few bad apples, but some actually just want to live the 'ol classic American dream; make a living like our ancestors did because they could not find that opportunity in their home country.

I guess I'm just saying this because I have quite a few Hispanic friends and I'm sure their ancestors did the same (whether it was 50 years ago or 200 years ago)... and I never met a "Mexican" guy I didn't like. They work hard for a living and they're so cool about it...amazes me.

Don't take what i say "wrong" i have mexican friends, i fly with them almost everyday and would do anything for them. But there are those MORE than a "few" bad apples that give them the bad name.

My friends a very hard workers. But the bad apples you talk about are not just a few.....Every been to Wal-Mart on a pay day weekend in KY, AL, TN. I know town's that have complained because there are so many Illegals mexicans.

I am in now way racist, i am half german and half who knows?? My last name can only be traced back till the mid 1850's and that is it.

I just want people who are in the states to become LEGAL in a LEGAL way not just hide from the police, have a child and then become a U.S. citizen. When a person who does not pay taxes goes to the emergency room, they don't pay i do.

I'm sorry for those who i have offened, but i feel very strongly about this.

I will not post anymore on this subject.

I didn't mean for it to sound like you were wrong, chuck...honest. If I did, I'm sorry, dude. I know you aren't a racist.

Don't worry. I ain't going to go off now saying, "But what I meant by saying...", trying to justify myself. :)

I have no problem with immigration, I just have a problem with illegal immigration. There are ambulances that actually cross the border and drop people off at U.S. hospitals. The #2 income for Mexico is people sending money from the U.S. to family members in Mexico.

This is a big problem that costs billions of U.S. tax dollars. The problem is both Republicans and Democrats want illegal immigrants. Eddie is 100% right, there will be no bills that will actually pass.

The key for fixing the illegal immigration problem is to make Mexico’s economy stronger and their standard of living closer to the U.S.

My big problem with making it more tough for people to cross the border is that you may only be creating a larger market for the coyotes and other human traffickers. As long as you make things illegal, you create an underground market and the scum of the earth make millions (drugs, human trafficking, etc.)

Mike
