The strongest stat supports my point.

In the poll, 87 percent said Washington should require car manufacturers to produce more efficient cars.
Punish the automakers, not the average American. Force them to comply or else! Read my "If I were President" post above.

Again, I am sure Freidman drives a nice car and even if gas prices go to $10 a gallon, his life will not change. Adding a tax that ads another $50 - $100 bill to a poor family is not helping them. He is trying to force people to buy hybrid vehicles. The average working Joe can't afford to go out and buy a new hybrid vehicle today AND pay $4 a gallon. That is what he is trying to do! Make a guy who makes $18,000 a year go out and get a loan for a new car AND pay $4 a gallon. That makes a nice $400 a month car payment and a $50 - $100 increase in monthly gas costs. That is what I call helping the car companies (buy forcing people to buy hybrid cars) and hurting the middle and lower class.

Force a minimum mile per gallon limit on the car companies and leave the average Joe alone. Motivate the average American to buy hybrid through tax cuts and other incentives, don't force them into submission.
