Re: Russia Throws Down the Gauntlet
I was there a few years ago and I'll tell you things have always been shaky. That includes the current conflict and the Gerogian people's view of their president. This may not have been a major blip on the screen, but was always something hovering on the horizon and has finally come to fuition. It'll be interesting how we play our support. Its one of our few foreign affairs I'll be following, especially since we've been supporting them for years. Will be an interesting outcome. Do you think this is the motherland's flex at stopping/slowing down our future/proposed bases in the FSI? Will be a good topic to stay up on!

Re: Russia Throws Down the Gauntlet
Sorry folks. It is time to fish or cut bait. Nato may, or may not stand, with us. We may need to rescue Georgia if we ever want to hold our head high again in the world. Time to draft more cannon fodder.
If we backpedal, we are toast as a great power. China, Russia, India and parts of Europe will band together against us. The Amero (The new coin of Mexico, U.S. and Canada) will become a reality. The currencies will merge. Viva Los Americas, eh? ![]() |

Re: Russia Throws Down the Gauntlet
I agree with some of Nyquist's analysis. He has been on top this this 'post cold war' environment for a long time. I kind of think the Russian invasion of Georgia is an attempt to insure there will be no bombing of Iran by Israel, with or without U.S. help. The administration is now under pressure to pressure Israel to not attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Russia has now shown that they will absolutely use their forces in the region, beyond Checheniya(sp) and their Afghanistan route is long ago history in today's world. Russia now has virtually unlimited resources, thanks to us in large measure, to take these sorts of actions. Should the U.S. back up our words of partnership with Georgia by using NATO force, the region could become the new iron curtain in the same way as post war Germany. cheers.

Re: Russia Throws Down the Gauntlet
I think this action probably sends a louder message to our govt. that the FSR does not want our missile defense shied in any of their former republics. Georgia's political past has been influenced in one shape or form by the US and I feel this is the Motherland's attempt to show some might. Shoud be very interesting. OH and I also heard via AFN news that oil dropped another dollar. Hopefully it'll keep going down.......
