Anybody want to work on a rough translation or summary or pulling key quotes out of this video news clip?
In doing my search for pollution related stories in the KBS TV news archives, I came across this longer, more indepth look at the Pyongtaek issue today. I would like to have a rough translation/paraphrase of the report. Or --- at least some key quotes pulled out from it. When I have the time and peace of mind to plough through one of these, which takes me forever, I usually only end up including one or two quotes that amount to 3 or 4 lines at most. But, I don't have the time to plough through this right now. The full Korean version of the transcript is located at this link. The video clip itself is at this link. It is fairly long. It is one of several similar shorter ones I've been running across, and from what little I can tell, they are fair news stories on Pyongtaek. If the Korean media had been this way in 2002 and 2000, what a different year each of those would have been. But, the style of reporting does not fall outside the normal parameters of The Anti-US Process -- when Korean society is worried that the US committment is weakening, or the US media is watching what is going on (a rare thing), the Korean media will lead Korean society into self-preservation - protecting Korea's image abroad and trying to convince the US government all is really well and fundamental changes in the alliance should not be considered. |
