I have no clue? There is never a "constant" when it comes to that.

I have a friend that is under 60 days until he fly's outa Korea, he has no clue where he is going, no orders or anything....

It got bloody!

Quote:
Police and the military on Monday evicted protesters against the expansion of a U.S. base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province and set up a barbed wire fence around the site. The massive 10-hour operation to throw the activists out of their impromptu headquarters at Daechu-ri Elementary School, on land that is to become the U.S. Forces Korea's new headquarters, saw 471 protesters from outside including students and members of civic groups and the Korea Confederation of Trade Unions arrested. There were near 100 reports of injuries. Police decided to punish all the violent protesters according to the law.

At around 4:30 a.m. 115 companies of police or some 11,500 started to pour into the area. When the operation ended at 4 p.m., police had obtained control of the school.
At 7:30 a.m. the Defense Ministry sent in a force of some 3,000 including 600 army engineers and 700 private security personnel as well as earthmovers and other heavy equipment. The group made headway on a 29 km barbed-wire fence near Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek and demolished the school.

The ministry informed the Pyeongtaek mayor the area is now a military facility protection zone. From now on, no one will be allowed to come and go at the site aside from traveling on designated roads. Any construction or expansion of buildings in the area will have to be discussed with the military authorities.

If you have any images of the protest please upload them in the gallery here.

Update

Looks like the protest is over, but Camp Humphreys still has restriction and is off-limits to people at other bases. I am sure the businesses outside the gate are mad!

Quote:
They arrested hundreds of protesters, work crews demolished the school and soldiers erected miles of fencing to seal the area against intruders or illegal farming.

As a precaution against outbreaks like that which occurred Friday, officials at Camp Humphreys have extended travel restrictions for military community members until further notice, said Susan Barkley, a spokeswoman for the Area III Support Activity at Camp Humphreys.

Off-limits to the military community until further notice was travel in Daechu-ri, Bonjong-ri, Wonjong-ni and Shindo-ri, except for those going to or from work. Only “essential” military vehicles were to operate outside post.

Ok, I took down the off-limits anouncement. How is the area outside the gate? Lot of police still?

60 Face Charges Over US Base Clash

It looks like the Korean government is finally getting tough on the protesters. Over 60 of them are facing charges. It is about time! These protesters were heavily armed as far as protesters go.

Quote:
Sixty anti-U.S. activists will face criminal charges for staging violent protests against a government plan to expand a U.S. military base in Pyongtaek, Kyonggi Province.

The prosecution on Sunday requested warrants for 23 protesters on charges of exerting violence against unarmed soldiers after cutting wire fences around the expanded site.

The request increased the number of those facing arrest to 60. On Friday, the prosecution sought arrest warrants for 37 other protesters for wielding iron pipes and bamboo sticks against riot police in a bid to block their eviction from the military site.
These baby seals fought back!

Quote:
During Friday's confrontation, some 30 soldiers were injured. Eleven of them were seriously hurt and taken to a military hospital.
