Rewriting Korean History - Korea Branch RAS - 14 Nov 2006 - video
This is a C-Span-like video of a lecture by a Korean prof (in English) about the contemporary effort to re-write Korean history. By which the speaker means --- moving toward a NK-favored / anti-US (anti-conservative Korean) version. For example, if you have been in Korean society for awhile, you have probably heard about the committee set up by the government to ferret out who the "pro-Japanese" figures were in Korean society during the colonial era. This is a hot button issue in Korean society - since one of the strongest attacks against the authoritarian leaders from 1945 to 1993 is that they let the "pro-Japanese" conservatives keep their money and power and allowed them key positions in the South Korean government and industry. The speaker covers all of this. It is a scholarly presentation, and she doesn't sex it up by adding flare to her delivery ---- meaning ---- this might bore a lot of people ----- but if you are interested in hearing a Korean talk about the last 50 years of South Korean history (and how it relates to a growing pro-NK / anti-US trend), check it out. |
