Post Upcoming Series on: Anti-US Activity - Where We Are Today

I started to write this post a couple of times and had to delete it early on each time. I don't want it to run all over the place, but in thinking about writing a post on The State of Anti-US/USFK Activity in Korea Today - that is what happens to my thoughts.

So, I think I will break it down into a series of posts which will help me organize it better.

Here - I am just going to explain why this is on my mind....

It has nothing to do with the level of anti-US activity in Korea -- well -- it has to do with how low that level is and has been for some time.

But, it also has to do with the simple fact that I had to fix a problem over at www.usinkorea.org. The drop down menus were not working for some reason, so I had to redesign the main page.

Then, I noticed it was the 1 year anniversary of The Great Battle of Daechuri - Pyongtaek.

And that got me to thinking about a few things:

1. How the anti-US/USFK NGOs really failed miserably in the strategic and tactical thinking the past 2 years.

2. The past 2 years have shown us how important the mainstream Korean media is in the anti-US process.

3. The fundamental difference in USFK/US in Korea has come from across the Pacific - not by the hands of the anti-US leadership or the Korean media.

I'll leave it at here for now. I will be writing about at least #1 and #2 above over the next week.

I'll leave you with a flashback to the Pyongtaek event of last year below:

Cool Re: Upcoming Series on: Anti-US Activity - Where We Are Today

I can't make your player work.

Don't know if anyone cares about Daechu-ri anymore. Things are under control now, and work, however slowly, is actually happening to work toward enlarging the USAG Humphreys complex. Maybe 2012 is realistic. Personally I believe the time frame will be close, but the # of people may decrease. Too many events can occur in 5 years.

Apparently the farmers and landowners have resigned themselves to the fact that their struggle is past history.

I think it is admirable that you write the history of those days, and give us a link to access it.

Re: Upcoming Series on: Anti-US Activity - Where We Are Today

Try sticking with pushing the play button. I'm on dialup, so things are slow, but it eventually got to buffering and playing for me.

I'm going to try to write more about where we are at now soon --

---but one thing I don't know and want to know is how the current construction is coming along and how...

Basically, is the construction "self-contained" --- or --- will it mostly be self-contained?

Or --- will much of the expansion work have to be done outside of barbed wire fences and with trucks and such having to move in-n-out of the area?

If the SK authorities can contain the construction area --- wall it off and maintain open routes for the equipment and such they need that can't be kept on base or on the site --- then the options for the anti-US groups are limited.

However, I would think with a construction job this large, especially an expansion, would leave a whole lot of ways in which the groups could bring construction to a stand-still with just a limited number of activists...
