[USFK Forums] North-South Red Cross Talks Underway [Chosun]

Uploaded by C. Y. Lee on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 (Commentary both in Korean and English):

[寸評] 이런 것을 同牀異夢 (Two go to bed, different dreams) 이라고 하더라~~ 北側은 南側이 提起한 國軍捕虜와 拉北者 問題는 外面 默殺하고 오로지 肥料 45萬톤에 목을 매달은 것 같다 (李最永)

[Short Commentary by C. Y. Lee] The South Korean side talks about POWs and abductees, but North Koreans seemed only keen in securing 450,000 tons of fertilizers. There is a Korean saying matching to it: "Two go to bed, different dreams."

North-South Red Cross Talks Underway
Updated Feb.21,2006 20:11 KST

At North Korea's Kumkang Mountain on Tuesday, at the seventh round of Red Cross meetings, the North Korean side is known to have repeated their previously stated claim that, "There are no POWs or abductees (from the South) living in North Korea". An official from the South said there is a wide rift between the two sides on the issue.

At the first general meeting, the South Korean side sought to find solutions on a wide-range of humanitarian issues including the repatriation of POWs and abductees, exchange of mail items between separated families where the status of relatives is known, and formalizing meetings between such families.

The North was known to have concentrated on its demands for 450,000 ton of fertilizer aid. The 2-night 3-day talks conclude on Thursday.
