[USFK Forums] International Day of the 'Disappeared' (August 30)
NORTH KOREA ABDUCTED Thousands of South Korean civilians have been missing since the Korean War (1950~53). Where are they? Are they still alive? Aren't they hungry? Aren't they dead? Where are their remains? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------International Day of the 'Disappeared' (30 August) "We shall continue our struggle until they tell us what happened to him and until justice is done. His life and that of all the "disappeared" cannot remain in oblivion. We are fighting to ensure that what happened to them will never happen in our country again." "If my relative is dead, I want to receive the body or remains for burial and begin the grieving process that would allow me to come to terms with the loss. If my loved one is alive, I want the chance to see him for what little time he may have left." "I am ready to forgive, but I need to know who I have to forgive. If they would just speak up and acknowledge what they have done, they would be giving us the opportunity to forgive. It would be more noble if they were to do that. There will be reconciliation only if there is justice." Excerpt : International Day of The "Disappeared" 30 August http://web.amnesty.org/web/content.n...br_disappeared [Uploaded by C. Y. Lee on Sunday, October 23, 2005] It is with regret to note that the International Day of the Disappeared has not been observed in the Republic of Korea. |
