US, Japan raise stakes with UN North Korea vote

Quote:
The United States and Japan challenged reluctant China and Russia to back sanctions against North Korea, calling for a UN Security Council vote on the Stalinist state's missile tests.

...Japanese ambassador Kenzo Oshima presented a binding draft resolution to the council, hours after Pyongyang warned any imposition of sanctions would be regarded as "an act of war."

This is yet another silly way to deal with the North Koreans. North Korea, China and Russia must be laughing at us! I could see their leaders now.

"The idiots are going to the UN again. What morons! Don't they know we (Russia and China) can block anything with a simple vote and drag this out for years? Don't they understand that we (China and Russia) love it when North Korea forces the US to jump through hoops? Thanks to the "we are the world" mentality of the Europeans and Americans one vote trumps hundreds. Idiots!"

Ok, a little harsh, but closer to realty than those who think going to the UN solves anything. All the UN ever does is bicker about the wording.

Mike

Has the UN ever solved anything? They start stuff but always seem to leave the US holding an empty money bag.

Not that I recall. Let's see. They failed to stop attracities or to act in:

1. Somalia
2. Kosovo
3. Serbia
4. Iraq (post Desert Storm)
5. Iraqi Freedom
6. Afghanistan
7. Sudan (failing now)
8. Rwanda
9. Kosovo
10. Iran (failing now)

This is just off the top of my head. They are good at:

1. Wasting U.S. money
2. Wasting prime real estate in New York
3. Ripping up parking and speeding tickets in New York
4. Raping women in Africa
5. Placing third world countries as the head of the UN (Egypt and now Kofi Annan??)

The last time the UN acted was in the Korean War. That is the last time the UN had teeth. I think that is true because it was not a "we are the world" club where everyone is a member like today.

Korea started as UN but ended as US simular to the way the French left us holding the bag in Viet Nam. But Thats what friends are for right.
