We should do direct talks with North Korea
Because it worked so well last time.
![]() Here is a response from the White House. The White House belittled former President Clinton's policy of direct engagement with North Korea on Monday, saying efforts to shower North Korean leader Kim Jong Il "with flowers and chocolates" failed. White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters that Bill Richardson, who served as United Nations ambassador and Energy Secretary under Clinton, "went with flowers and chocolates, and he went with light-water nuclear reactors ... and a basketball signed by Michael Jordan and many other inducements for the 'dear leader' to try to agree not to develop nuclear weapons, and it failed." Snow added, "We've learned from that mistake."

Re: We should do direct talks with North Korea
I'd like to side with the white house on this one but, it seems we may need to buy some time where it concerns this crazy little bastard. No disrespect intended to Rodney, but the little guy is the Rodney Dangerfield of the world leader class. I don't think we need to fear the technological superiority of his missle program at this point but, he could very well supply materials to our other foes or keep launching missles in a willy nilly fashion and eventually, accidentally hit someone. Maybe direct talks would buy time, if nothing else. It would be like providing a kind of therapy to the insane.

Re: We should do direct talks with North Korea
Ha ha! Good analogy! And good observation about their actual capabilities. This is pretty typical of their usual sword rattling cycle, and I would only imagine that these are pretty pathetic attempts to get some more food and aid from us so that we can look like we talked them down. It's a win-win for all. Pretty comical, isn't it?

Yeah, he don't get no respect! He don't deserve no respect either but we may be able to fake it until we can corner the little rat.
