Aloha,

My wife is active military and was just told she had a command sponsored slot for me. I was wondering how long it usually takes from the time you get your medical clearance till you actually have to move?

Do you know if they allow the military member to pursue housing before the spouse arrives?

Mahalo, Stu.

Re: Aloha,

Stu, if you check out the VERY long-winded Non Command Sponsored thread here, you will find all the answers to your questions and more (even though you'll be command sponsored). Is there a reason you won't be living on base? If you live off-base, although your wife can look, she won't actually receive any housing money until you (her dependants) are on the peninsula and needing the housing--that means she wouldn't be able to sign a contract on a place she liked, but she could definitely start looking. We went through Korea Realty and they were great. You should ask for Alex. They are located out the main gate, on the right side as the road veers left to go over the overpass. Good luck and welcome to the ROK.

Re: Aloha,

I looked in that thread but didnt see anything. Thanks tho.

We want to move off strictly because we have 3 little dogs and military policy is only 2. I'm not going to give up one of my kids.

Thanks for the help.

Along with the necessity of you being on peninsula to begin your housing, you might also want to be aware of the fact that usually, even for O level positions, CS spouses are *required* to live off base, unless they procure permission from their command, so you might want to have your wife put in her request now, so you'll know whether it's going to be possible.

Have you talked to housing about the possibility of a waiver for your 3rd dog? That might also be an option you might want to consider. I don't know how accomodating the housing office here is with CS spouses, unfortunately, but it seems like it's worth a try :)

Dee :)

Re: Aloha,

I thought it was NCS spouses that were required to live off base?

Housing at Osan is very uncooperative. They told my wife they wouldnt even talk to her until I had command approval to come over. Little silly I thought but oh well. I've dealt with it all before.

I didnt think about the waiver, maybe they could help us out.

Thanks Dee.

Re: Aloha,

Just incase you didn't know. When you come from Oahu with a dog to Korea you won't have to leave them in quarintine. Only because Hawaii doesn't have any rabbies. We brought our dog from there and only had to pay about $180 and they were checked as excess baggage, this was with Korean air.

Re: Aloha,

You'll have to get there shots up to date and there and I think you need to have a rabbies shot within 30 days but not within 10 days. Make sure to check with the airline your flying with. We got our shots from the vet on Hickam and then we had to get her checked with someone from off base. The vet on base should know what you need to do.

Re: Aloha,

Yep. I've got all the requirements from the airline, korean customs, Osan, and Hickam. I'm just still worried about the housing. Guess I gotta get my medical done first.
