Getting Command Sponsorship AFTER spouse has PCS'ed to Korea
My husband is already in Korea, but just for a few days. He wants to extend his tour to 3 years and get us command sponsored. I'm just wondering if anyone here has done that once the military member was already in Korea, or if anyone knows anyone who has. Also, how long did it take and was it a pain to get? Matt has heard it is pretty easy to do if you are willing to stay for that 3 years. And we are.... but I'm just worried how long it would take to figure out. I was wanting to leave next month as NCS and just waiting if to see if we get CS *unless of course it happens quick and we get CS before I make any final plans* Hope I'm not too confusing for anyone! :)

I know my hubby was briefed that there will be over 1000 new cs billets opening up over the next few years, but how that will come into play in the here and now, I'm just not sure of. I would definitely encourage you to apply, I would estimate that the odds are a bit higher than 50/50 that you'd get it , unless your hubby is in one of those units that I spoke of....Have you already had yours and the kids' medical/dental clearances done yet? I would try to get that taken care of asap if I were you... Your dh has a window of about 60 days to get his package in to request CS, so the more you have done, the more smoothly it will go. I didn't realize we had to do stuff like that. What a pain in the rear. I guess I need to find out all this information from him tonight. He better call me soon! :)

Re: Getting Command Sponsorship AFTER spouse has PCS'ed to Korea
We are actually about 50 minutes from fairchild AFB in Washington state. but, the kids' Primary Care Manager is a civilian doc about 3 miles from my apartment. If I need to get medical/dental clearance, I can head to the base, I'm sure. As far as TMO... our stuff is in NORTH DAKOTA! :) Matt talked like he could sign a power of attorney for a friend there to have them pack our stuff up *its alright in storage, but they have to re-pack it all* And same with the car-- we could have family drop it off at the San Francisco car place since that is most likely where it would be if I fly over early.
There is always way too much paperwork. I hate it all. But, its military. My husband has been in 10 years and was planning to stay for the full 20 to get retirement... but if I had a choice in it, I'd have him come home right now and just be done with it all. I do not mind the military life until it comes to deployments and moving. Its such a pain. We had quite a few exercises at Minot AFB and they weren't that bad. I'm sure not as many as Osan... but there were plenty. My husband is a Tsgt and is supposed to be working in Ammo of some sort there. Missile Maintenance or something liek that. I'm about 21 weeks pregnant and afraid I'm going to be giving birth early because I'm so stressed... hmmm... I wonder if they'd send him home if I went into pre term labor and was stuck in the hossy for 4 more months. haha |

Re: Getting Command Sponsorship AFTER spouse has PCS'ed to Korea
Well for Command Sponsorship, first there must be a slot for that position. What I mean is that, when your hubby is put in a unit he takes a "SLOT" if that particular "SLOT" is a CS slot then no problem. If that "SLOT" he is put in is not a CS slot then that is the problem.
You can read USFK reg 614-1 and it tell all about CS, Special CS and TEMP CS. You can also find the templete for the letter needed to accomplish the mission I'm talking for the Army now, and I'm not trying to toot my own whistle, but I'm the only person in country that has my MOS skill identifier (there are also none inbound). And i'm having a VERY hard time getting a TCS. Usually CS spots are for Commanders/CSM's and personnel in postions that promote continuity in the unit, and needed for more than 1 year. Hope this helps

Re: Getting Command Sponsorship AFTER spouse has PCS'ed to Korea
As a Tech, your husband may be authorized to drive a car here on base, but I don't think he's authorized to ship one, even as a command sponsored family, without a letter of exception to policy, so if he's going to put in the paperwork for you to come CS, I'd go ahead and grab that form as well..I believe he can get that application form at the MPF here at Osan.
