Re: Anyone at Yongsan?
Hey Ralu! Mr. Joe is always here. Redlegwife is here. SSNapier reviews our restaurants. SHsong is here. ALPOPE is here-just a few miles north of Seoul at English Village. You need to see that. Lots of Europeans working there in many capacities. It is an immersion school for English language students.. All employees must always speak English. Find the website, I don't have it in front of me. There are others in Seoul that do more listening than talking. We have some folks from other native English speaking countries teaching in Korea all around Seoul; Aussies, Canadians, Irish, etc.
Ask any question, one of us will respond. I would like to see more participation on this Yongsan Forum. Remember- next Saturday- the USO near Samgakchi Station- Seoul Computer Club Monthly Meeting!!!free food! No military ID required- it is not on Post. The United Service Organization building hosts the Seoul Computer Club upstairs. You are now invited! |

I'm not much to socialize except at the computer club once a month. My wife is Korean, and we mostly walk. She would rather eat at home than pay $20 for Korean food she can make for $4. And having operated restaurants in the US, she is a fabulous cook. On weekends, I walk by myself, and sometimes go to the Wolfhound and spend $3 for a coke. Usually there are English speakers there. The Fish and Chips looks good, and the salad. The Nashville and the Seoul Pub are popular hangouts. Kind of smoky. You want to try the
Ginko across from the Burger King is good. |

Re: Anyone at Yongsan?
Joe, it is Gecko's not Ginko... Ginko is the pill you take to make your brain work better... LOL!!
Ralu, what type of socializing did you have in mind, and what types of things do you find interesting? I do quite a bit more than just review restaurants, I go all over the city looking at random crap and having a pretty good time. My new favorite spot to hang out is cafe Bauhaus in Hongdae, it is a cafe, but they have about 15 dogs that live there and hang out with you. Fot people like me who had to leave thier dogs behind, it is a great way to get a little sliver of reality again! Anyway, be more specific about what you are looking to do, and I am sur we can either help you or join you at some point. You might also want to invest in the Lonely Planet book about Seoul, it is very good. |

I concur with both Redlegwife and SSNapier! A good current guide book is a good start! I recommend both those mentioned. I was drinking Gingko at Gecko's and it was a mixed drink? There are two Gecko's-the other is up behind the Hamilton Hotel It seems like a place with a nice garden atmospere. The one across from Burger King upstairs opens the windows in good weather, and was not stuffy and smoky like some places. Lots of young folks enjoying each other's company!
I'd like to go to that dog bar someday. Hope it is not in one of the areas blanketed as off limits by the USFK moral patrol. SS-you are not Fot! Do you drink Ginko, too? Sorry you had to leave your dogs behind... |

Re: Anyone at Yongsan?
Hongdae is only off limits betwen 9 pm and 5 am, you are free to do anything you want outside of those hours... and I quite often do! As for getting there, it is relatively simple with a decent map.
Hapjeong station, exit 6... walk straight until you get to the "parking lot road" and then turn left. There are cars parked down the middle of the street, and you will be nearing a golf place on the opposite side of the main street you were walking on from Hapjeong. Once on the parking lot road, just keep walking. I will have to get you some decent landmarks to reference here, but it is after the Blues House, and it will be on a side street to your left, on the 2nd floor. I might possibly be going there on Sunday, and anyone who wants to is welcome to join me! They open at 1:30 pm and I plan to get there around 2:30. I could meet you at Hapjeong station or I could meet somewhere near Yongsan if that is easier. |
