car question
Hi everyone-
We are coming to Osan in October and are currently planning to ship a beater instead of buying one there. One of our beaters is a Honda Accord and the othre is an older model minivan. We'd like to bring the van but are concerned about the size. It's older, so it's on the small side for a minivan but still significantly bigger than a car. Would we have trouble driving and parking it there? I understand that roads, parking lots and cars there are smaller. Also, if we ship a vehicle, can we fill it up with stuff? I appreciate any advice! Thanks, Anna |

Re: car question
Are you command sponsored? If your are then you can ship 1 car at the government expense. As long as it is on your orders.
Unless you already have an exception to policy you are only allowed 1 car while being over here. There is another thread, i'll find it and post the link for more info.. Here is a thread that will help... http://www.usfkforums.com/osan-air-b...1-tmo-cars.htm

Re: car question
Thanks for the link- I think my husband has the shipping thing figured out, or if he doesn't he's not telling me.... Now we're trying to figure out if it's practical to ship the minivan or if it would be better to take the smaller car. We're concerned that the mininvan might be too big for the streets, parking lots and etc.
Thanks, Anna |

Re: car question
You cannot put anything in the car, and it has to have less than 1/4 tank of gas. I would not worry about bringing the van if that is what you would be more comfortable with, the roads are not THAT small!

I have a mini van in Seoul. It is O.K., but if I had managed to trade with a friend for a smaller car, I would have preferred to bring it. It didn't work out, as they wanted money to boot. Anyway, parking and driving in alleys, etc., I personally, and particularly my wife, would prefer the smaller car.
From Charleston, where I shipped my car, they gave us a 2x2x2 box, in which we could put tools, flashlight, car parts, fan belts, bulbs, window sunshield, and a reflective triangle; also a blanket and a couple of pillows. It was inventoried, sealed and packed in the van. No liquids. |

Re: car question
Your NCS so I have to ask your rank? E-7/0-1 and above can bring 1 car. An exception to policy for the second, given by the post commander.
E-6 and below are on a complete exception to policy.
