We packed out two weeks before we left our last duty station, and took a month of leave, and when we arrived , our stuff was waiting for us...they delivered it right to our apartment as soon as we found it,and made the arrangements with TMO. The whole process of getting our household goods went amazingly smoothly on this end... the only complaints I have are about damanged goods. Do be careful as your packing, and watch the movers as you're packed out.. and make sure things, especially electronics goods, are well packed. We lost a computer monitor, SLC lost an entire computer, and I know several guys that lost tv's due to the damages. Much of how quickly your stuff arrives depends on the method you choose to ship your goods at..if you opt for a "by sea" shipment, it takes longer, but you have 200 lbs. more that you're able to ship...by air, you have the strict 500 lbs, but it does get there more quickly (fishe, correct me if I'm wrong here?) I believe by air , the estimate for the time of delivery is 30 days, I'm not sure what it is by sea. One thing I *HIGHLY* recommend.. is to utilize to your fullest extent the allowance for professional gear. It doesn't count against your weight limit..and includes *anything* your husband uses for his work duties. We shipped hubby's cdc's, one of our computers, that he uses for typing memos, and other official stuff.. and the peripherals that we needed.. all under professional equipment, and it saved us a *huge* amount of weight. You should have a TMO briefing before or as a part of your outprocessing that should explain this in much more detail, but until then, I hope this helps. Dee :) |

Re: Moving?
My hubby packed our stuff the last week of June and I believe it arrives in September, ahh.. But the military will provide you will loaner furniture (sofa, bed, kitchen table, etc.) and the family support center can lend you pots, pans, microwave, dishes, etc. I was able to get some pillows, sheets, blankets, and towels from the Airforce lodging. If you opt not to bring your pack and play, stroller, and car seat on the plane the family support center can lend them to you. But I would bring your own, it just seems to be easier. You can drop off the stroller at the end of the runway before you board the plane. You can also drop your car seat there if you aren't taking it aboard. But I would highly recomend bringing your car seat aboard. Buy the extra seat, its worth it.

Have any of you NCS ladies used the AFRC loan closet? If so, what was your experience? Did you get furniture, etc? If so, did they deliver it to your offbase apartment? Now I'm curious :) Dee :) |

Re: Moving?
Well, not sure about the loan closet...but I can prove (with a letter signed by housing) that I would not recieve ANYTHING from housing, washer, dryer, couch, table or bed.........nothing.
Yes I was authorized by the post commander to live off base and still recieved no help.

Re: Moving?
I'm pretty sure Laura is CS...so that would make a world of difference. I did receive some items from the loan closet but they have to be signed back in after 30 days. So it's really more of a hassle than it's worth I think.

Re: Moving?
Oh sorry I'm CS. I didn't realize that they don't provide that for NCS.

Re: Moving?
Brad and I borrowed stuff from the loan closet, but it was just kitchen stuff. I don't think they even asked if we were NCS or not, but it's been 6 months since we've done that. You can call the AFRC and ask.

Re: Moving?
Tom had no problem borrowing the pack and play from the AFRC, but I haven't gone in myself, as a NCS spouse, and borrowed anything. We had it for three months, plus a couple weeks.
