Mid-tour is not mandatory. Yes you use your own leave that you have, No you cannot leave early.

I wish you could do what you say...That sure would be nice...

Re: Mid-Tour

Here at Osan, they will normally let you take up to 30 days, 15 of that can be advance leave if you do not have 30 days built up and wish to take it. But yes-- it is YOUR leave. They do not help you pay for your tickets, so if you plan on going, make sure to save your money. Go through the travel office that is across from the BX. We got some great deals through them, and they allowed us to change our tickets once free of charge. MOst airlines charge an arm and a leg to change reservations.

Re: Mid-Tour

If this is your first duty station I would advise you to NOT take mid tour... reason being when you leave Korea you won't have any to spend with your family and friends also it's expensive, you will spend more money for travel, food and entertainment etc.

No, You do not have to stay longer. Your Mid-Tour is considered a part of your 1 year assignment to the ROK.
However, on a side note. Your Unit may require that if you are not going to take all 30 days at once and you want to split it up, I.E. (Two 15 days, Three 10 days, ect.. off peninsula) You may need to project them all at the same time you are scheduling your first Mid-tour.

Re: Mid-Tour

Also at the end of the 1 year tour if he doesn't
any leave left he may not get any time off when he
does return. Mid-tour sounds good but it could put you
in a bad situation.

It's like any other duty station where one takes leave from. Korea is no special than say, Alabama. In that regard, anyway lol

Re: Mid-Tour

My husband took a 30 day mid tour and we found a cheap flight through twa. The mid-tour is such a wonderful thing I would recommend that EVERYONE who is married take one (well, except for the morons who waste their time in korea with juicys). Kunsan goes by relatively quickly, my husband has vonage and we log about 6 hours of phone time a day, (he goes to work and calls me and sleeps, he is a GOOD hubby! no hooches,or juicys or crap from him.... makes me feel sorry for all these people i keep hearing are getting divorced) of course they are taking away vonage so we have to use something else but that is another conversation. but enough of my ranting, point is, the midtour is worth every penny you pay and all your leave. Time with family is priceless!!!!!!!
