Welcome, Claire's Mama :) There are a whole bunch of us here! :) Welcome, and congratulations on your choice to come to Korea. While I don't have any specific information on Camp Red Cloud, there's some great general info in the NCS thread stickied at the top of this section of the forum (Spouse's Club). It's a long read, but very much worth it. As far as any one at Red Cloud..hmm.. wasn't that where Redlegwife used to be? What about any of you Humphries folks? Do you have any information to share? :) Again, welcome, if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask! Dee :) |

Re: Non Command Sponsored to Korea
I think Redlegwife was at Yongsan or at least I seem to remember her trying to sell her car there before they left. I know very little about CRC. I think it's in Area 1 isn't it?

Ohio Gozaimus: Welcome to our forum!
U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud is no longer a camp. Still referrred to as CRC, it is the largest Military Post in the city of Uijongbu. I lived there a long time ago. I go up there at least monthly. It is near the Uijongbu Subway station. It is very small, but larger than Camp Jackson on the other side of town. There are no Command Sponsored billets on Post for soldiers, but the off post apartments are many and varied. I would love to live up there again! The city is larger than Pyongtaek and Songtan combined. It is very modern and growing by leaps and bounds. It takes an hour or less to get into Seoul and Yongsan, if you find it necessary. They have a nice Korean hospital nearby. There are dependants up there, but I don't know of any on our forum. Sunja lives there, I think: a forum member. (Redleg Wife lived and worked on Yongsan.) Someone there will show up here soon to explain more. In the meantime most everthing applicable to any ncs family will apply there. It is Area I, so cars will need an exception, but don't worry about that right now. Last edited by Mr. Joe : 10-01-2007 at 10:16 PM. |

Thanks so much Dee, I`ve been reading infomation about NCS and found out tons of stuff that I didn`t have any idea about. My husband is allowed to own a car there and I was wondering if I am able to drive his car with my international driver`s license because I had to get SOFA license to drive Y plate here in Japan ( for US service member`s plate). I have 8 months old daughter and I would have to take her to 121 pediatrics at Yongson, ( 1 hour drive!) how`s the medical service there? My daughter was seen by the Navy pediatrian here she prescribed the medicine that my daughter didn`t even need so I`m a litte nervous to take her to the military doctors.... Thanks! Claire`s mama |

Thanks for the info! Are you talking about St. Mary`s Hospital? Have you been there? We were at CRC last week but didn`t have time to check the hospital. We stayed in Osan and took too long to get to CRC by bus We found a really nice apartment near the gate but the Realtor doesn`t speak English enough for us to trust them. We were going to keep the aparment but decided not to. My husband will have to try to work with them when he gets there because I decided to wait here in Japan until everything is ready for us move. Did you use Julie`s Realtor when you were there? Do you know any realtor in the area of CRC? Thanks! Claire`s mama |

Yes, you should definitely be able to get a RATION card, and be put in the BIDS system. You should also have a ration amount equal to a CS family of your size. Being here at Osan, I'm not sure where you'd go to secure those at CRC...but I'd recommend starting at your MPF (or whatever the Army equivalent of the personnel office is! :) ) Here at Osan, that's where we get them! :) Sorry I can't give you more location specific info! :) Dee :) |

Re: Non Command Sponsored to Korea
I just went to Korea to visit my husband and needed a ration card JUST to enter the PX and commisary. I didn't even want to buy anything myself, I was with my husband! Anyway (roar), I had to first get enrolled in BIDS. (Make sure you go to the correct BIDS office, for some reason, there were 2 seperate ones where he is stationed, I think they are moving offices) (but the army is way unorganized!!!!!!!). I could only get enrolled for 30 because I was only on a normal 30-day tourist visa. If you have a SOFA card for the entire time your husband will be there, you can be enrolled until your husband's DEROS(?)--the date your husband has orders to be in Korea until. Then go to the ration control office and get a permanent ration control card. Your husband must go with you because he has to sign their log. You must be in the system to get a ration card, and the system is BIDS. So don't waste your time by going to the ration card office first. You even need a ration control card to go to Chuson, a gift shop at Yongsong. Sorry for all the misspellings, hope this helps!
