I'm back.. well, sort of :)
Hi, all! :)
Just a note to let everyone know,we've arrived safely back in the U.S. and are currently enjoying spending a little time with family and friends before heading off to the follow on. The flight was long, but not bad. We had no major problems with Northwest Air's customer service (thank heavens!). Our dog made it safely and none the worse for the wear, and at a *much* cheaper rate than we'd anticipated, since he was still small enough to count as checked baggage. He seemed to have been well cared for, *HOWEVER*, his kennel (which was specifically noted as aircraft approved, and inspected by the airline prior to loading him on board) was pretty much ruined during the trip, cracked and broken, and held together by tape. We've experienced a little culture shock being back in the States, but nothing huge (:) ) ..and adjusting to the difference in times seems to be easier coming *this* way, than going *that* way was. Getting "re-integrated" with the family that had remained in the states has been a little.... dramatic... in one instance, anyone who wants to hear me whine, or wants a good soap opera story, drop me a pm, and I'll be happy to fill you in on all that's going on, but ... for those that are just as content not knowing details..just keep the hubby's daughter in your good thoughts. The rest, however, has been great. :) I miss you guys, though! :) Dee :) |

But you will need all shot records and a International health certificate (must get it no less than 20 days before you leave.)

Re: I'm back.. well, sort of :)
Thanks all for the warm welcome back! :)
If you've sent me a pm, please be patient with me, I'm a little behind in answering, but I'll do my best to answer you in the next day or two. :) Quote:
My much beloved bro hit it spot on in this one. :) If your dog is small enough, you can bring him on as a carry on bag, however, if he's a little on the larger side, you can bring him on as "additional baggage" and he'll fly in the cargo hold of the same plane as you do. We flew Northwest Airlines, and our dog flew as cargo. The cost of shipping depends on the weight of the dog, however, the agent at ITT, and the agent we spoke with at NWA customer service both informed us that the most we would pay would be $299.00, for the maximum weight of 150 lbs. (the weight of the dog *and* the carrier) Ours fell just beneath the 77 lb. mark, so we got off very cheaply at $130.00. We didn't bring our dog over with us, so in all honesty, I'm not sure what the requirements are for bringing a dog *into* Korea, but I'm sure you *do* need that international health certificate, and you'll most likely have to go through the pet office at Incheon airport upon arrival. Perhaps someone who brought their dog over can help with that... For us taking our dog *OUT* of Korea, the international health certificate had to be obtained no later than 10 days before travelling (we got ours at the Osan Vet Clinic), and then , on the day you fly out, before departure, you have to obtain a Korean health certificate for your pet at the pet office at Incheon. The process at the airport is quite frankly, nothing more than paperwork, the staff never even looked at our dog, just checked to make sure we had all our dog's paperwork in order, handed us a form, and charged us 10,000 won. :) From start to finish, it only took about 10 minutes, however, the airlines and vet's office wisely advise you to allow an hour for the process. One thing to keep in mind about transporting pets is that there are certain times of the year that airlines *will not* transport pets as cargo, due to the temperatures being to high. Some embargos are from May-September, so if you're coming over during those times, you may have to find an alternative way to get your precious pup over. Hope this helps, Dee :) Last edited by rndspringer : 11-13-2007 at 12:05 PM. |
