Re: New Housing Update
Thats too bad that you can stay here with your husband. My children are not school age yet so i dont have to worry about that. How long does your husband have left on his tour.

Re: New Housing Update
Thanks for all of the additional info. I knew I had heard there were supposed to be about 500 new families moving in but I think it was from the principal at the elementary school at Osan. I understand it may be difficult to get an appointment on base for medical care but have heard decent things about local hospitals if care is required. Isn't there a 24 hour ER at Osan too?? Hopefully we won't have any major catastrophies while we're over there.
Knowing my luck, we'll live at the hospital now that I've said that. I'm still searching around for info on the homeschooling group at Osan. Does anyone know where I can find this out at? |

Re: New Housing Update
When I read the article in the Stars and Stars recently about all the new families coming in and how Osan is under capacity when it comes to families, I noticed that NOT ONCE in the artcle did they mention NCS families. I am worried that when all these CS families come in it will be really hard for those here NCS. There is only 1 peditrician and its already hard to get an apt now. And don't get me started on parking. I plan on walking everywhere when we move on base. At least they are in the process of building some garages, but who knows how long they will take.

Re: New Housing Update
The whole CS system is a farce. This is not an issue in Japan or Europe. They need to allow families to become automatically CS if they choose to living in this country with their sponsor.
A member has dependent care responsibilities but the command prevents this from becoming fully possible. Kind of like you can have an ice cream cone but no cone, just a scoop of ice cream in your hand. It seems to me that there is a sense of division of classes from the whole CS system as well. Members here will provide better continuity and level of service than a 1 year member. |

Neither the Army nor the Air Force designed Facilities to consider dependents when we were forced to build up here after the Korean war. Only in recent years has there been any considerations made for dependents. The size of Osan is limited, and something will have to give soon when there is no more room for expansion. Yongsan is also overflowing, hence the great movement to accomodate troops at Humphreys. It looked like a great idea- satisfy the wishes of the City of Seoul to have Yongsan returned to the Korean Government and build a great city of Gold in Pyongtaek, where dependents could be well taken care of just like at other overseas locations. It is still the dream of USFK! It just will take much time and money, neither of which is as abundant as we would hope. Old Korea hands, like myself, will ALL tell you that things often take much more time than originally planned, and government projects especially, take replanning and refinancing, and I'll tell you- there will NEVER be enough PARKING on any military base! In the U.S. houses are being built with 4 car garages, 20 years too late. Planning ahead should be taught in High School!

Re: New Housing Update
Mr Joe,
Thank you for some shedding light on a otherwise grim subject. |
