shipping cars to OSAN

Okay, here is my next question...My husband and I are in a debate over should we ship one of our cars. I have a 2003 Trail Blazer that we have been "on the fence" about shipping to Osan. We have been told by several folks not to ship a car but to sell it stateside and to by an old beater once we get to Osan. I want to ship my truck which I know is reliable and I like. Hubby wantsonce we get there. I am turning to all of you that have "been there and done that" What have you found to work best? How easy is it to find something suitable for a family of four?
Sorry for all the questions but my head is spinning...now that we are in a rush to get over there....
Thxs, Kim

Re: shipping cars to OSAN

I wouldn't pay the cost to ship a 2nd car. Just buy one here. There will be a ton of cars on the market soon as that everyone who moves on base must sell their 2nd car.

Are you going to be in base housing? You only get one car. I am currently trying to sell my 2nd car.

We are struggling over shipping just one car. We don't think we will ship two I don't think I want those added cost. We are going to leave hubby's truck at my folk's house. So, most folks did ship atleast one car?

I mentioned this in another thread, but again.....if you live on base, it would be OK to bring your truck, but I wouldn't bring it if you live off base (especially if you don't want it to get hurt!)

Even if you are CS you are only allowed 1 car (I think you did say your hubby is an Officer). In order to get a second car, your hubby would have to get permission from his commander. If you live on base, the commander will NOT grant permission.

SOOOO....if the truck is yours and you live on base....your hubby will be the one driving back and forth to work in your truck. In this instance, it would prolly be better just to get a beater when he gets here.

Re: shipping cars to OSAN

We sold our van and truck before coming and we bought a beater. It was cheap, $500.00. It's ugly as sin but it runs, fits four of us and and we don't have to worry about it getting bumped and scraped because Koreans for the most part see vehicles as utilities and don't care if they scrape your car to get by... this has happened twice so far to my husband while he would be waiting at a light going straight and another car scraped through wanting to turn right.
