Re: Looking for a job
Other than teaching, I haven't heard of too many opportunities without a lot of networking. Which usually involves a lot of volunteering first.
Good luck with whatever you do!

Re: Looking for a job
OK....as far as the job goes...
*you must have a bachelor's degree (subject/major doesn't matter) *have a clean criminal history *be from an english speaking country - and fluently speak english *and be able to pass the health check You also need an E-2 visa which requires.... *passport *original college/university diploma *notorized criminal background *original transcripts *interview at closest Korean Embassy I know it seems like a lot...but once you get everything together is pretty simple. Teaching english in Korea, has nothing to do with the military. If you're already in Korea the process is a little bit different. And it's different if you're already here and you have an A-3 visa. There's lots of good info on the web. If you'd like specfic websites, just message me. AND....about the OHA...with most teaching jobs, they either come with housing included (ranging from a small studio to 2 Bedroom apartment) or housing allowance which is couple of hundred dollars. I chose housing allowance, so we can just have extra money in our pockets. |

Re: Looking for a job
I could do that as I meet all the requirements. What are the hours like?
to Morgane, I wonder if you could be a nanny for someone? Does anyone know the Korean laws for this? |

Re: Looking for a job
After all what I've read, as long as you're a native English speaker, it doesn't seem very hard to find a job for teaching English.
Taking care of children: I would love that! but I didn't see this type of offer anywhere... And I understand it would be hard for parents to leave their children all day long to somebody they don't really know. |

I work from 3-8pm. Originally it was 4-8pm. But so many people wanted to join my class. I added another one. Koreans here are "greedy" for english...hahaha. But that's great if you're looking for a job! The hours can range anywhere from 6am - to 10 or 11pm; one day a week or seven days a week. But you have to find what fits your schedule and how much you want to work. You can teach kindergarteners to adults. It's pretty much up to you. You can be a nanny, but that is a private thing here (and only legally if you go through an agency - I think). The laws are strict on what americans can and can't do for work here and the appropriate visa. But...I never see anyone around to enforce...that's why...i'm gonna stop right there... hahahaoops...I just notice to the to morgane part...sorry! |

Re: Looking for a job
Morgane, another thing to consider is that in all likelihood, your fiance will not be permitted to live off base. From what I know the higher his rank, the better his chances but the majority of airmen are required to live on base.
Also, depending on his job, he may be working 12 hour days. |

Re: Looking for a job
Don't worry Gingersmurf, I understand!
Maybe he will work a lot, maybe he won't be able to live off base... but I can't imagine waiting for him in Europe a hole year! I have to try seriously to find a job, not only for me but for the both of us! Even seeing him only the week ends will be better than nothing. |

Re: Looking for a job
Hi Morgane,
There are tons of people at Osan looking for child care- almost every day I hear of someone who wants a nanny or babysitter. The Osan Parent Network has a registry of caregivers, let me know if you'd like to get on it. Or just put up ads on base; I'm pretty sure you could work all you want. Anna |
