Even though your CS, you are still coming to a restricted tour...if that makes any sence...acording the the JFTR (Joint Federal Travel Regulation) this regulation governs ALL military, you are allowed only 1/4 of your weight.

I've posted a link to the site somewhere on this board....

I think we will doing the same but I was just hoping to get a idea of how it looked.....
You can check this website out to see what household goods the Army will provide

https://onestop.army.mil/main.htm

I have no idea if the pictures provided are a true representation of what you actually get?!

Also how far is the place you will be staying to Camp Casey? Can't we just live closer to Camp Casey on the ecomony?
From my understanding Camp Casey is approx 1 1/2 hours north of Seoul, I guess we can live on the economy there, but again I am not too sure how things are until we actually get there. For instance, I don't know if there are medical facilities etc at Camp Casey for families.

When does he report? We don't till October/November.....
We are arriving in Korea on June 16th, the report date is not until 21st but as you cannot arrive Friday to Sunday we opted to arrive early!

Hopefully I can let you know more when we arrive if no one else can help!

Re: question...

Still confused (sorry, been non-stop sorting and organizing for this move and my brain is no longer functioning!).

I found this: http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/cha...html#wp1122196 but I don't see anything about 1/4th. Also, the orders state "Member now authorized 100% of full JFTR to Gaining Location".

Now I can't find the weight chart, but I think ours was for 13,000. Where does it say that I can only move and store roughly 3000 lbs?

Re: question...

Maybe I found the answer. The comment on the orders allowing us 100% means we do get the 13,000 pounds.

On a navy site, I found this: In some overseas areas, administrative weight restrictions may apply. For example, if the area you are being assigned to provides government furniture, the government will not pay to ship your full JFTR weight allowance.

Is that correct?

Re: question...

We arrived CS to Osan back in April and prior to hubby leaving and getting TMO setup we also had the big question looming about how much we could ship. From our experience--we got our full allowance which was 14,000lbs divided between 3 shipments (unaccompanied-air freight), NTS storage, and then our HHG. Your unaccompanied (I think ours was around 1,000 lbs.) will be given based upon family size and then the rest is up to you. So our total couldn't be over the 14,000lbs. We are living on base in a tower. I would guess you guys are getting on base housing?? If not, then you should consider that when deciding what to send over, otherwise if you are on base you should be fine. We shipped over 9,200lbs HHG and we have plenty of space for that. We used the loaner furniture available when we first arrived until our shipment came which was just this week--we shipped from stateside west coast Apr.4th. Just know that nothing furniture wise can come in your air freight--we couldn't even ship a card table and chairs--but if you have a crib you can ship that, otherwise nothing that could be considered furniture. Hope this helps

As far as I am aware this is the reason why we only get 1/4 allowance.

As weluvhockey stated there are 2 shipments and NT storage which should total no more than the full allowance. However, don't forget that 'professional gear' (army issued items, related books, pc etc) is allowed in both shipments and it is 'free weight'.

Re: question...

Just wanted to clarify--it seems that we are talking about 2 different things here--tnesawyer started the thread and was asking about Army up in the Seoul area---then Gingersmurf came along and had a question totally different situation AF, Osan, CS. We are AF, Osan, CS. I know there is a JFTR that is suppose to be for all services, but in this instance it is service specific. Unless your TMO has received word from Osan that your weight limit is a restricted amount--you can ship and NTS whatever weight limits you want (as long as you don't go over your total weight allowance with all 3)and again your unaccompanied(air freight) is going to be a certain amount. Currently the AF only provides loaner furniture until your shipment arrives(due to the size of housing--towers-- 1700sq ft.+) and also when you PCS which is the reason you have your full weight allowance, however the Army(restricted tour and limited housing sq ft.) provides furniture for your entire tour. It is a little confusing. Having been stationed with Army at prior overseas assignments--I have had the benefit of using both services. I am sure the Navy/Marines also have an even different set of guidelines. Just know that your TMO(whichever service you are with should be aware of your entitlements). Hope that clears up some confusion.

Re: question...

I have another shipping question- We are heading to Osan in a month NCS but DH's squadron said we should get CS some time in the next 6-9 mos (plan is to extend to 3 yrs at that time). Will we be able to request shipment of the furniture the AF put into storage for us and move on base once CS comes through?

Yes you can, you can also ship a car at that time...

Re: question...

We are PCSing to Yongsan in Oct. We are Air Force and have never been stationed on an Army base. In Germany the issued couches were terrible. I really want to bring mine but they are very heavy. What do the issued couches look like over there? We were also told 1/4th the allowance. Is this based on how many people are in the family? There will be 5 of us total. 2 adults and 3 kids. Any info would help! Thanks!
