Coats, however, are another story. There are any number of places downtown you can get Gore-Tex coats, and even the whole Gore-Tex outfit made so inexpensively you can't beat them in the states. As far as snow, the wind, and cold, from what I experienced, are worse than the snow. We had a couple of big snows last year, they tell me it was a mild winter however. The seasons here seem to change very quickly and definitively when they do. When we first arrived last November, we were told we'd arrived at the onset of winter. The weather remained fall-like until about the 2nd week of December (wasn't it ladies?-and gents?) then suddenly, *boom* it was like someone flipped a switch, and it suddenly got really cold. Ironically, as far as the school..we had no days out for snow last year, even after a 6" fall had left the sidewalks so slippery it was like watching the ice capades, but had one or two fog days. Re: Non Command Sponsored
I'll be arriving at Osan next month and I was wondering how much it'd be to take the ITT bus with my 3 children - 5, 3, & 18 months old? Do I have to pay for my baby who'll be sitting in my lap? And do they take accept dollars, or would I need to get won?

Re: Non Command Sponsored
When we first arrived in April, we paid for my husband and me. Our five year old, our two year old, and our nine month old were free. When we left Osan in August we paid for our five year old and me (my husband did not accompany us to the airport but the two year old and fifteen month old were free). When we came back in September, we paid again for just my husband and me.
So, who knows! You might get lucky. Seems that they're more lenient at the airport than at the ITT office. Kara |

I don't know what an ITT bus is. Is it the one from downtown Songtan to Inchon?
$25 from Osan? I can understand the convenience if you live near the bus station. And CS will be reimbursed on the travel voucher. But if it is out of pocket, there are other ways to skin a cat; I can ride from Inchon to Yongsan Gate 1 for 7000 won. I can ride from Yongsan bus terminal to Osan for 4700 won. The Airport Limousine Buses from all large Hotels in Seoul are 13000 won. Buses run from The Dragon Hotel on Yongsan to the Airport all day long for FREEwith Orders and an ID Card. The Subway (Train) now goes from Inchon to all areas. I don't know the cost, but all the above have to be much less than $25. |

Re: Non Command Sponsored
ITT is Information, Tickets, and Travel. It's the office on Air Force bases that organizes guided trips, has travel agents that can book tickets on commercial airlines, etc. The bus is a Services bus that runs from the baggage claim area directly onto base and drops passengers at the PAX terminal (if you are incoming military) or at Turumi Lodge. Civilians are permitted to get off at either location. If you are lucky enough to live by the Beta gate, where the bus comes onto base, you may also get off at the gate if you ask nicely, so your walk home is shorter.
All in all, in my opinion, for newbies coming in to Osan, to have a comfortable ride down to base with your luggage stowed underneath the bus, it's worth the $20 or $25. Kara |

I agree it is certainly nice to get a nice bus ride directly to Osan after the LOOONG Ride from the US!
I miss the old flights direct to Osan from Yokota! Last time I took a space-a trip to Japan it cost me $28 X 2 nights at Turumi Lodge before I finally got on a plane. I took a Navy C-21 to Yokuska and rode the subway 60 clicks to YOKOTA, where, of course, it was midnight, raining, and the buses had stopped running. Walking about a 1/2 mile to billeting, it made it a long day. |

Re: Non Command Sponsored
Hello everyone! I'll be arriving on Osan with my 3 children on the Sunday before Veteran's Day. Does anyone know if any of the realty places are gonna be open on Monday? And if anyone can recommend a good realtor, I plan on exploring my options, so the more realtors, the better!
Thanks in advance! |
