Thanks for the advice . . . I was leaning towards not taking the car, but my husband thinks it would be nice to have . . . any ideas on how long it takes to get there?

Re: Non Command Sponsored

A car is nice to have. An Expedition is not car sized, heck by Korean standards, it's a small bus ;-) Even if you have a large family, you'd be better off storing the Expediton and picking up a Korean van or SUV. They're better set up to handle the teeny tiny roads and tight parking places.

Cheers,
gozer

Re: Non Command Sponsored

It really depends on what is available at the time. My husband paid $500 for his car back in July of last year and it is a real "hooptie" but I got my car for $200 a couple months ago and it is so much better than his. My kids(20 months and 5 months) travel in my car and I am super careful when i com to my kids.

Re: Non Command Sponsored

Ok.. so I am debating as to wether or not I should join my husband NCS to Korea in Sept. For those of you who did join your husbands would you recommend it? Would you do it again? I have spent countless hours reading some of the other 126 pages and understand I will be paying for myself to get there, that doc. appts might be hard to get into, etc. Our follow in will most likely be Japan so even if I have to fly myself there it wouldnt be far. Just need some expert advise. And I have heard that you need a good bit of money saved so my plan would be for my husband to leave, me stay home sell our cars and live with relative so I could save as much money as possible. Then he could be searching for apts on his down time.

Do you have children? I don't really know what to say to ppl when they ask that, because it ultimately comes down to just being their decision. It can either be a wonderful experience for some or it can come down hard with culture shock and leaving everything behind. So I just say try to weigh the pro's with the con's.

Had we not had our daughter, I would not have even come over here.. point blank, that's my answer. But depending on the money situation plays a big part in it also.

Well we have a 1 y/o. and I should have enough money once the cars are sold. I just have heard such conflicting answers. I mean I am a tough woman who has been on her own since 18. Hard times have came my way. Yes I could be away from my hubby for a year, but I dont really want to. My dream has always been to see the world and I just thought this might be a good start.

Gotcha. Trust me I have been there too..

If you have the money... I would go for it. Like I said, it'll all boil down to what you want to do. It's most definitely an opportunity to see the world... and one of the reasons I did come so that I didn't regret not coming later in life, and also because that is time for my daughter to be with her dad that is irreplaceable.

Re: Non Command Sponsored

Hello everyone new here, but have been following the forums - We are expecting order to Osan to come down any day now and I have (like so many other) some questions -
My dh is on the flight line - so there is no option of CS for us -
We have middle schoolers - 7th & 8th grade and I know that the school is a long shot, but that some of you were able to get in - can anyone give me an update on this? Is there a list or something that we can get on now? I'm fine with every other aspect of going ncs, but the thought of homeschooling pre-calc terrifies me!!

Hey there! My hubby is also a flight liner and since they just reorganized, the people that were in charge are no longer in charge so apply for CS anyway, you might be surprised.

If I remember correctly most of the problem with school was in the elementry school, but I might be wrong so don't hold me to it.
