Re: Non Command Sponsored
Ok here is the word right from the commanders call.
They are going to let NCS families live in the towers. Because the Army has approved a bunch of people to live at the Hump but they don't have the facilities it is making it hard to get into the clinic, but the 121 isn't turning anyone away because they have the room. There is also not enough room at the high school or middle school for the above reason. and there was stuff about cerfew. |

Re: Non Command Sponsored
Just a personal opinion- I wouldn't come to Korea with 7th and 8th graders if I were NCS. If you have a LOT of money for private school and want to live in Seoul, maybe.

Re: Non Command Sponsored
Thanks so much for that quick response - Just curious when is the new school going to be finished? I thought that "the hump" was building more resources to handle the increase in NCS and that in turn would take some of the pressure off the AF - Is that still the case? I think that we are looking to come next spring - I know that this is really far out but I am one of those over prepared moms - (comes from spending 12 years in the Army)
We are also bringing our golden retriever - I know that many people bring their pets over - but has anyone brought over a big dog yet? How are the Korean landlords with the larger dogs? So there is a chance we can get in the towers? Wow!! |

Again I bring up, medical care...what if your spouse gets in an accident? Either way, do what you think your rank can handle. You can do anything you want here, as long as you don't get caught....

Re: Non Command Sponsored
Perhaps there has been a little miscommunication. I actually attended the town hall meeting last evening and the commander wanted to clarify that he did not say NCS will be in towers--he did however, state that all CS cats--A, B, C could now be accomodated in the towers. He strongly discouraged anyone currently coming NCS with either health issues or 7th-8th graders--right now there is just not space to take care of these folks. In another statement he is even looking at CS coming in and considering whether or not to approve concurrent travel based on medical and school issues. The car issue is also being worked--not a done deal yet as well as curfew issues currently being discussed but no change as of yet. Just wanted to clear up some incorrect information. Better to know the whole story before, than showing up and not being prepared.

Re: Non Command Sponsored
I just wanted to confirm what weluvhockey said...
I too was at the town hall meeting and NCS families are not being allowed into the towers; the change is that all category C families (who normally are CS but not allowed to live on base due to lack of space) will be allowed to move on base if they choose. The Commander was very clear that while NCS may have worked in the past, right now really isn't the best time for families with Middle and High School students to be coming NCS. This could change by next spring, but right now Osan is in a crunch to get the new HS completed in time for school to start in Aug, and there is no guarantee an NCS middle or high school student will have a spot. Osan just doesn't have the space this school year. Same thing with medical issues, especially this summer since most of the staff is outprocessing and a new medical team is coming in. This is even affecting CS families ... many with older children are not being given concurrent travel because the Commander doesn't want the kids to get here and not be able to go to school in the fall. |
