Should newspapers be able to leak stories?
There are obvious anti-Bush people working in the NSA, CIA and other intelligence organizations. Their hatred for Bush and the war in Iraq has led to leaks of the highly classified "secret" prisons in Eastern Europe, the NSA wire taps and more recently the tracking of terrorist finances around the world.
Some have argued that it is the right of newspapers to print these stories regardless of the damage to national security. If this is true, what stops me from opening a newspaper and releasing national security secrets daily? can't I just simply hold up my press card and say, "sorry, but I am the press and it is my duty to inform the public." The argument that newspapers are immune to prosecution is rubbish. A newspaper is a business and their only motivation in money. They are in the business of selling newspapers. They are not a not-for-profit organization seeking truth and justice. They are selling newspapers with information that only benefits their pockets and the terrorists. Military members have lost stripes or have even been placed in jail for posting OPSEC violations on their blogs. They were not even posting highly sensitive classified information like the New York Times has done. So, our newspaper writers and editors have more rights than our military members fighting in Iraq? That is shameful. The leakers need to be stopped today. There are left-wing criminals in our national intelligence agencies that hate Bush so much they are willing to send the New York Times highly classified information in order to embarrass the President. These men and women need to be found and placed in jail for 20+ years. Until this happens we will continue to have leaks. The New York Times needs to be punished financially. I do not believe in throwing the media in jail even though it would be right to do so. This will make them martyrs and they will scream Mccarthyism. Instead Americans need to cancel their subscription to the New York Times and businesses need to stop advertising with them. By sending them this message they will learn that publishing national security secrets is not profitable.

This is how sick the top NYT editor is.

So it is useful for a NFL coach to disclose the entire game plan for his offensive line to the opposing coach so the fans know how he is protecting the QB? Sounds like a winner! If I remember correctly, this is the same guy who was asked a question during the Vietnam War. There is an American soldier and a Vietnamese soldier ready to have a shoot-out. Who do you want to win? He replied immediately, "The Vietnamese soldier of course because it is his country." Are we getting that the elite media has an agenda and is bias? They DO NOT have the American people's best interest in mind. They root for the enemy and look for a profit.

If that guy really said that the Vietnamese soldier (North?) should win over an American, maybe your story , which is not classified, should be sent(not leaked) to Paul Harvey. Free press works for all of us, right?

What are my "inconsistencies regarding classified information?" I have been very consistent. If they are a leaker, they should be in jail. If they are a newspaper, people should boycott their product. Show me where I have deviated from this.
Mike
