Investing

I thought some folks on this sight might be interested in gaining some insight and sharing their insight into various investment strategies. Since we all have computers today, we have access to many avenues for investing in our financial futures regardless of where we may be. There is one web sight I highly recommend, (I am not affiliated with it, I just read things there). The web sight is: Financialsense.com. You will find a multitude of opinions and insights into many things financial there. I particularly like the writings of the monetary scientist: Dr. Antal Fekete. I also recommend: Investorwords.com to help with the vast terminology. I am personnaly positioned in silver and gold, have been since 2003. I bought silver in 2003 based on insights from those who were in the business for years. I sold some during the recent high of $14.50 per ounce. If anyone is interested in looking into silver, I recommend David Morgans Silver-Investor.com. I am not affiliated with it either, other than to be a subscriber. If anyone out there has views about investing, looking forward to reading them. Remember the old saying: Above all, pay yourself first.

What site have you found that gives good advice for the investing illiterate. There are so many out there. Is Financialsense.com the only one for those that are beginners. Many of the sites are more oriented to making sales for them rather than actually being helpful.

Some Fav's

Just about anywhere you go someone is trying to ultimately sell you something, however, these are a few of my favorite sights with a brief explanantion of each: (1) FinancialSense.com ; This sight is spearheaded by a very smart fellow named Jim Puplava. Jim is an investor and he owns an investment firm, BUT, that is not the aim of the web sight. The sight is informative in natue and many very smart and of course a few not so smart people contribute to the sight. It has a lot of good links like" a sight that keys on raw materials, another that keys on precious metals and others that key on stocks. There is a ton of information available through FinacialSense.com Silver-Investor.com: This is a sight primarily for the silver investor, but it does go into gold as well. There is much information and a daily brief about the silver and gold market available for anyone who happens into the sight. Mr. Morgan also has a hidden part of the sight for subscribers to whom he provides more in depth analysis and investment advice. (3) Bullnotbull.com: This sight includes blogs for all kinds of subjects about the markets, money, whatever. It has many, many good links to other informative sights. A good one is the link called "all about money. The home page also has the US dollar index chart from Kitco. (4) Kitco.com: best place to look at charts for metals and spot prices for silver and gold. (5) Investorwords.com: A dictionary of investment, financial terms. Indispensable sight.

another

Another good sight to visit is the fed's sight: federalreserve.gov. Here you can read the actual comments by the board of governors and the chairman instead of hearing snippets on the news. There is an interesting speech there now from Mr. Kohn that was mostly ignored in media circles. He makes some interesting comments in it concerning a possible direction for the dollar, I.E. a possible weak dollar policy coming sometime from the fed, in the near or far future? Don't know. Here is another study out today about gold and its relationship to fiat currency: http://www.resourceinvestor.com/pebble.asp?relid=21333

As always, remember to pay yourself first.

If your Military active then just drop it in TSP in the "L" funds and then let them do the work for you.

Besides that I have no clue...

Parisok,
For a beginner, maybe check out the Motley Fool site. They have a lot of articles that talk about the basics of personal finance and they're pretty easy to read. Skip past the Products and Services menu on the left down to the Investing and Personal Finance articles. Of course, there are ads selling their books and what not, but the articles are all free. I think they also have a radio show on NPR.

Re: Investing

Good advice Chucksnee, the TSP is one of the best things going for feds and active duty. I took full advantage of it for the 8 years I did as a fed. I wish I would have had the option of it during my active duty years. It starts out slow like all investments but its surprising how fast it can build up once the balance reaches a certain point. The only thing to keep in the back of your mind is the value of the dollar in your pocket and remember, the TSP and most other investments will pay off in dollars. It doesn't hurt to have some gold or silver stashed away somewhere, every little bit will help.

Re: Investing

I haven't used Motley fool myself though it is widely known. It was held in a fairly high regard as far as an investment broker goes, during the dot.com boom but, that was a time when it was hard to miss. All you really need was some cash to invest and the ability to know when to sell before the crash. Don't think any of us will see that opportunity in equities anytime soon again, maybe not in our lifetime.

Re: Investing

Yeah, I can't really attest to Motley Fool's specific stock advice, but as far as learning the principles of investing and basic personal finances through very readable articles, they're pretty solid.
