Re: Investing
I've been going over the tax scheme for this year and next. It can be mind boggling. MSN money has an article that says anyone, single, who has a primary income in 2007 of $31,850 or less will only pay a 5% tax on any long term capital gains. I believe the tax on long term capital gains for the same tax bracket will go to 'zero', yeah 0 taxes on long term capital gains for next tax year of 2008. That means , of course, you need to be fully invested before the end of this year in any long term positions you want to maintain, and then sell them under the zero tax law before it expires and after your position has been held for 1 year. Any financial guru's out there that can shed more light on the tax code is always appreciated. CHEERS!

Re: Investing
Nevsun had a pullback to $1.83 when I recommended it. Yesterday it traded as high as $2.40 in after hours trading. The probable buyout I spoke of in an earlier post is now a publicly talked about scenario and more people may jump in to try and make a quick buck. It is now thought that the buyout offer will come from Lundin mining in the early part of Jan 08. Since this is now widely disemminated public information, I see no room for any major pullback in (NSU) until the chips have fallen on the deal. The talked about buyout offer price is being reported as $4.00 per share, as the most likely offer. Of course, many offers do not get accepted or come to pass. The trick will be to sell on a share price pop after the offer is formally made, for anyone who bought (NSU). Cheers!

Re: Investing
Turk, I've got one for you. I've had Millenium Cell (MCEL) on my watchlist since June. Back then, it was around $1.45. The stock hit an all-time low yesterday at $0.30, and I finally bought in. The company makes hydrogen based fuel cell batteries. 2008 could be the year when this company starts to turn around, if orders start coming in. Very high risk, and to throw a wrench into the works, the stock is about to be de-listed from the NASDAQ if it doesn't rebound soon. The plus side? It's cheap, and for the price of an IPod Touch you can buy 1000 shares. If you already have an IPod, you just may be able to charge it with one of MCELS's batteries in 2008 if they make it to market.
NOTE: I own shares of this stock. I also own an IPod Touch. |

Re: Investing
I have been waiting, like many people, for a boom in fuel cell/ hydrogen technology and the great investment opportunities that may come along. I started looking in to it about seven years ago but, I didn't see anything worthwhile. I'll check out your company, thanks. Most of my money has been in silver and gold since 2003. I was in oil but recently got out. I think eventually the fuel cell/ hydrogen technology plays will start to boom. Don't know when but then we usually don't until the boom is half way over. good luck, cheers!

Re: Investing
Rader, I looked into mcel, not much there to back up any possible rise in share price except for a lack of insider selling. Unless they actually start selling their power systems and making some money it looks like there is more room for the share price to fall. Of course, only the insiders would be aware of any impending contracts. IMHO it would take several contracts or a major, huge contract to not just buoy the share price but make it turn around. This one is not for me, I'll stick with the metals and commodities for the forseeable future, good luck.

Re: Investing
I am now a 100 percent gold bug and every one of my investments has to do with gold or silver. There is pain in the market right now and probably more pain to come but, the year may end on a high note. A gold miner I recommended awhile back, columbia metals, seems very close to production. This is one of those companies that came out of left field. They have been trading between 17 and 20 cents for a couple months. Once they actually start production, I would expects at least a double in share price. I intend to hold a long position here. As always, no money you can't afford to lose should be invested. Even when everything looks rosy for a company, accidents and other things can happen to sink the share price. here is the link to columbias web sight:
http://www.columbiametals.ca/index.php By the way, for anyone crazy enough to only invest in one sector, like me, you should be diverse within that sector, i.e. own at least five miners, mixed with producers, large miners and juniors. Cheers!

Re: Investing
nevsun has now received its mining liscense. This means it is in the sweet spot where a buyout offer should be made before it issues any new stock to raise funds. It is trading up today.

Re: Investing
Good question. From a gold bull perspective I would hope the electronics industry uses a lot of silver and gold in their manufacturing process but I remember reading an article about this a while back that took the position that users of precious metals in electronics could withstand great increases in the cost of the metals before they would need to pass along the cost down the consumer chain. The price of silver has risen 4 fold in the past five years and gold is close behind so I guess it is probable that the electronics industry may be at a point where some pricing pass along may be due. This is just one more thing in a long list of reasons to remain bullish in precious metals. Cheers.
