Re: Investing

The president of Bolivia has nationalized a natural gas pipeline, partly owned by Shell. Resource nationalization marches on and is definitely the trend of the world. Since Chavez of Venezuela began his seizure of resource assets, his economy has begun to crumble. nationalization has definitely passed the isolated case stage and has become the trend. More reason for the US Congress to get out of the way for companies to develop our own resources and a definite reason to invest in North American based resources. cheers.

Re: Investing

Jeez, thats really great. How can we exploit this occurence in Iraq? Are there plans on the table to inviade Nigeria? They always seem to be in the news; evidently those not in power there have an uncanny ability to sniff out the foreing oil competition and hold them hostage. Is our govt suggesting that we strip away our American core and start digging where the dart lands? If so, then maybe we should pay better attention to Nigeria.

Re: Investing

President Morales nationalized the natural gas in Bolivia, let's hope he keeps his hands of the mining industry. I've been building my position in Coeur d'Alene (CDE), and they've got their San Bartolome silver mine over there. My silver play is CDE, and my gold front runner is still Iamgold (IAG). IAG is trading dirt cheap these days, less than $6 a share! I'm still optimistic, buying up as much as the wife will let me. I started posting on these boards before I came to Korea. I've been here 14 months now, and investing, managing the portfolio, and due diligence on stocks has been a great hobby over here. I credit Turk with tipping me off about the precious metal sector, an area I knew little to nothing about. Now, a year later, I can rattle off the names and locations of mines from Botswana to Ecuador.

Re: Investing

I went to a coin dealer four days ago. he had no silver eagles, no one ounce bars and very few ten ounce bars. He pulled a box of silver canadian maple leafs out of his safe for me, they were all old dates from the 90's. The U.S. mint is halving the output of silver eagles to dealers because they must now buy silver on the market like everyone else and the demand for silver eagles has exceeded anything they planned for.
We all know the world runs on oil. There was a theory put out many years ago called peak oil, well guess what, when we weren't looking, we reached peak oil and passed it. The world now uses around 87 mil barrels per day but production is only around 85 mil barrels per day. All of the major, super oil fields in the world ,(which supply about 70 percent of world oil), they are all in decline. The jury is out on the Saudi fields, though anecdotal evidence suggests they have reached a plateu in their ability to produce and will eventually go into decline. The world is screaming at OPEC to produce more oil but, the truth is, it seems like they can't. There have been a few large fields discovered but they are years and billions of investment dollars away from coming on line and they are not big enough to make up for the decline from the super fields. Can't blame resource rich countries for wanting to keep more of their resources but, as in the example of Venezeula, they will most likely trash their economies in the process. last I heard, venezeula's inflation rate is 30 percent and there are big shortages of food staples available at the markets. The new world order which has been spoken of by globalists seems to be 'hoard what you have.' I believe the hoarding mentality will soon overtake the precious metals markets. Cheers!

Re: Investing

INVEST AT YOUR OWN RISK---Here is a miner to be considered: Northgate symbol (NXG). It is currently trading around 3 dollars per share. Those who I listen to have a target of 5 dollars per share. As always, the mining sector is risky, anything that can go wrong in a mining operation from explosion to fire to geopolitical risk can cause you to lose a bundle. Always research the company yourself and decide if it meets your investment criteria. Cheers!

Re: Investing

A couple more notes on oil: I thought we would see gasoline shortages last summer but we didn't. I now believe we will see gasoline shortages beginning in sparse areas sometime this year and escalating to more severe shortages over the next five years. The only thing that will have a substantial impact on the amount of oil we consume will be demand destruction. I do see anecdotal evidence of the beginning of demand destruction here in CONUS. Just over the past few months, post winter snow, there has been a remarkable increase in people who ride Vespa's and other motor scooters around town. Kind of reminds me of having to do the old adashie scooter dodge in Korea. There are more people buying these forms of transportation everyday. I have also noticed quite a few more mini coopers, geo's and other mini cars on the road as compared to last year at this time. Market forces are working in that, people have enough common sense to understand they don't want to spend a third of their budget to buy gasoline. There has been much more media coverage of the promise of hydrogen recently and the california hydrogen highway project is still going strong. Hydrogen would be the perfect fuel, should it ever become economically feasable but, the experts are still arguing over that possibility. Many wind turbine companies have located production and testing plants in Colorado and a company called ava solar has improved the cadmium telluride solar cell technology that propelled a company called first solar into high gear. Ava is currently private. The industry for new energy is edging higher and higher and seems to be here to stay, unlike the eighties.
