Re: Investing

Do you dabble a lot in the foreign market? American stocks in my 401K ar not doing real well right now but I am not into the high risk but am interested.

Re: Investing

I'm primarily a gold bug these days. Always looking for gold mines with growth potential regardless of the fluctuations in the price of gold. It is truly a risky business but it is one that has very high reward potential. I would never use retirement money for these. Back when I started this thread I talked about 'TYHEE". It has since more than doubled but it could just as easily fall from here. Very often these kind of stocks don't perform in lock step with the value of the company until they are spotted on radar by a broader range of wall street types. Until that happens it is mostly firms and individuals who are familiar with the territory or who are insiders that provide the investment financing. many mines are in foreign areas but controlled by Canadian/American companies.

Re: Investing

Gold seems to have broken solidly above the $800.oo level today as oil and other commodities continue upward. here is something to consider when deciding to invest in gold: In 1980 gold made a historical high that has since been the benchmark for all gold bugs. I can't remember the exact high then however, if the price of gold since that 1980 high were simply adjusted for the offical inflation from 1980 until today, gold should be valued at over $2200.00, to be equal value to the 1980 high, which we are now in the process of surpassing! Cheers!

Re: Investing

Gold bugs rejoice! I've been away from the boards for a few months, and in that time gold has been going crazy! The company I mentioned a year ago IAMGOLD (IAG) has been riding the wave. Its the only stock I own in this sector, but I've made it my favorite child. I got in even deeper in August when it hit a new 52 week low (6.42, i snagged it at 6.55) and watched it hit a new high this week at 10.43. Earnings announcement on Nov. 13th, and with such large reserves and the POG so high, IAG should have some great news for us.

Re: Investing

something to pay attention to: The TIC report comes out next friday, novemebr 16. TIC stands for Treasury International Capital. It is the report that tracks capital in flow and outflow to and away from the USA. In august, mucho capital left the USA and it has been leaving since. The report will say that capital flow out of the USA has little effect on equity markets but don't believe it. If this TIC report shows a continuation of foreigners pulling big capital from US financial instruments it will undoutedly have an effect on stocks, sooner or later. My gut tells me it is time to protect my capital. CHEERS!

Re: Investing

Is Gold really the way to go with the paper market taking it in the shorts because of the bad loans? Are there other options other then sticking my money in a mattress LOL. I think those of us that work for companies that have 401k need to really look close at what is offered and how each offering is invested.
