What is your opinion on the UAE port deal?

If you don't know the story, a UAE port management company bought a British company that manages 6 U.S. ports. Both Democrats and Republicans are asking President Bus to reconsider. Former President Jimmy Carter is FOR President Bush allowing the UAE to run the ports.

In my view, the UAE is one of our biggest allies in the Middle East. Yes, they are Muslim, but disqualifying a company because of their religion may send a terrible message. I find it odd that the same people that are asking President Bush to cancel the contract are also the same people against profiling Arabs in airports. So, we can't profile people boarding airplanes, but we can discriminate against companies doing business? From what I read the security of the ports still remain with the Homeland Defense Department and nothing really changes. Any new employees sent to the U.S. will be screened.

Let it also be known that the UAE donated more money than any other country in the world towards the victims of Katrina. $100 million to be exact!

I am sure the UAE had this port deal in mind, but $100 million helps a lot!

I believe there is no one more tough on terrorism than President Bush. We have not had another attack since 9-11. Why do people think President Bush would risk peoples lives if he didn't do research on the UAE Company? It is fine to question this company, but let’s not automatically disqualify countries!

I agree with you.

I don't see any reason to oppose the deal. It isn't like these ports are being taken to the Middle East. We're still going to handle security. And even if worst comes to worst, we can easily take over the port facilities. No gripes here.

Looks like the UAE helped the President out.
