Mich. Teen Downloads Billionth ITunes Song

When I first read the title I thought that a single teen had downloaded his billionth song! I thought, "Where the heck does he find the time!"

Quote:
A teen was the person that downloaded the billionth song from iTunes. Apple is treating him very well!

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Alex Ostrovsky got more than he bargained for when downloading Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" from the iTunes Music Store.

The 16-year-old's purchase was the one billionth song bought from the online music service that Apple Computer Inc. kicked off three years ago, charging 99 cents for most tracks. Ostrovsky's selection was from Coldplay's "X&Y" album.

The youth, who lives in the Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield Township, was showered with prizes: a 20-inch iMac, 10 fifth-generation iPods and a $10,000 iTunes gift card.

Apple also said it would establish a scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music in his name.
I think this is a fine example of an industry being rewarded by not gouging their customers. Charging $20 for a music CD is too much! Charging $1 for a song is an excellent deal. Most bands only have 2-3 good songs on a record any way! When you make the product affordable, people won't download illegal (as much anyway!).

A billionth?!!! Like with nine zeros after a one?! Are there even that many songs in the world? Geez, I can't even imagine one million of anything.

I am assuming there are popular songs getting over 100,000 downloads at a time.

That is $1 billion dollars that Apple took in due to this deal! Soon we will know Apple as a song pimp instead of a computer company.
