Be a prostitute, or lose unemployment

Germany will be importing up to 40,000 women to serve as prostitutes for the 2006 World Cup, but I'm surprised they'll have to. After all, if a women gets laid off at her job, no matter if she was a scientist or factory worker, she can be compelled into the sex industry. How so? Because if she doesn't take the job as a prostitute, she can lose her unemployment benefits.

Quote:
A 25-year-old waitress who turned down a job providing "sexual services'' at a brothel in Berlin faces possible cuts to her unemployment benefit under laws introduced this year...

The government had considered making brothels an exception on moral grounds, but decided that it would be too difficult to distinguish them from bars. As a result, job centres must treat employers looking for a prostitute in the same way as those looking for a dental nurse.

When the waitress looked into suing the job centre, she found out that it had not broken the law. Job centres that refuse to penalise people who turn down a job by cutting their benefits face legal action from the potential employer.

That's an interesting story! I lived in Germany for 5 years and prostitution was always an interesting subject to talk about. It is sad that some women may be forced into prostitution to keep their benefits.

i'm in germany right now,i speak and read german, for them prostitution is a job, and it is a very seriouse job ( i watched once in german television about this ) if you wanna be a prostitute over here, the fact is you have to proof it that you don't have any std, and they do everything with condom and they check the girl every 3 month
you can believe it or not but it's just a normal job over here and it's legal. what i've know is they import a ton of east europe girl to be a prostitute over here due to the worldcup, so i don't know wich one is true
