[IRAQ] Troops, family mourn girl killed by terrorists
![]() After an insurgent mortar killed a young Iraqi girl near Balad on July 2, Coalition forces visited the family to offer their condolences and to promise to do everything they could to capture those responsible. The child, about 8 to 10 years old, was cutting tomatoes by a water drum in her family’s courtyard when the mortar round struck the drum and killed her. Staff Sgt. Donald White, a patrol leader, with Task Force Band of Brothers, and his patrol was near the area when they heard the mortar impact.Upon arriving at the scene, Iraqis were running to and from the explosion site.
