Re: Why did you join?
I joined and am now retired but My draft number was 18 and Viet Nam was all but over but I did not think the draft would stay away. Could not find a school close to home that had what I wanted so I joined and ended up making it a career.

Re: Why did you join?
This is a good question.
I joined the service to get out of my home town in Massachusetts and to travel. I have been to over 15 countries now so I would say the travel part has been fulfilled. ![]()

Re: Why did you join?
I wanted to work on jets, the air force was the only way to go. Got out one time, took a year off to think about it, then went back. You just can't beat the opportunity to do what you want, the travel and the commeraderie. Wish I could do it all again.

Re: Why did you join?
I guess I'm a bit old fashioned like most of the others on here. I grew up with a strong military influence, and I always wanted to serve my country. I couldn't have cared less about college money or any of the other crap that recruiters have to push these days to get people in. And trust me...I've been a recruiter and know what it's like. The people that walk in the door ready to join so they can go out and see the world while serving their country are the ones that have stuck it out and made a career of it. Don't get me wrong...I'm not bashing anybody at all. I'm just proud to serve with the others that are here to serve. I'm quickly approaching 20 years in, and my only regret is that I can't do 20 more. Hooyah!

Re: Why did you join?
I didn't got in at University after had completed high-school.
Because my parents is poor very much. so, I had to gived up my Universties Dream. I had to find what i can . but I didn't find anythings. so I wandered for many times. and then, I joined to Navy. I got many experience from Navy. I served for 5 years at Navy. and then, I get in a college with my money. After graduate from college, I got my job. I think if you're a man, you have to go the troops. If you are real a man......!!! ![]() Last edited by shsong21 : 08-09-2006 at 12:22 AM. |
