AMC Carry On's To Match Airlines
Is this neccessary or just a knee jerk reaction by the Air Mobility Command? Considering that AMC flights are not open to anyone but military and government officials, isn't this a little over board? Does the air force really have a valid need to equate this civil air line terror threat to its military members travelling on military owned and operated aircraft?
AMC imposes carry-on restrictions Times staff The newly imposed restrictions on what passengers may carry with them on commercial airlines also will apply on all Air Mobility Command aircraft, officials have announced. The ban on carrying on any kind of liquids or gels, including beverages, hand and suntan lotions, toothpaste, hair gels, creams or similar items, was imposed Aug. 10 after authorities foiled an alleged plot to take down as many as 10 planes using liquids that, when mixed together, are combustible. The alleged scheme was being launched out of Great Britain, where Scotland Yard and intelligence officials had arrested more than 20 people reportedly involved in it. The same security measures imposed on civilian air travel Aug. 10 will apply to people traveling on any Air Mobility Command aircraft, AMC spokesman Mark Voorhis said. “Air Mobility Command follows TSA [Transportation Security Agency] guidelines,” he said. The liquid and gel items may be kept in checked baggage but not in carry-on bags. Under the new rules passengers can carry medications, but must have a prescription with a name that matches the name on the airline ticket. They also can carry insulin and other essential non-prescription medicines. And parents can bring baby formula, breast milk or juice on board. The command is also working to release more details on any new guidelines that may affect travelers on AMC charters and military aircraft, Voorhis said.
