Are illegals simply doing the jobs Americans won't do?

I hear time and again from President Bush and almost all Democrats that, "illegal immigrants from Mexico are just coming to do jobs Americans won't do."

Is that true?

I am still reading State of Emergency by Pat Buchanan and he has some interesting facts that prove otherwise.

From the Pew Hispanic Center, these are the jobs that illegal aliens constitute as a total percentage compared to legal workers. Here are the top 5.

27% - Dry Wall/Ceiling Tile Installer
26% - Landscaping
22% - Maids and housekeepers
21% - Roofers
20% - Animal Slaughter and processing

So, the #1 job illegal aliens perform is dry wall and they make up 27% of that industry. That means 73% of the people in the dry wall industry are legal aliens or citizens of the U.S.

So, Mr. President and Democrats, do illegal aliens do jobs that Americans won't do? Or is that simply a way to win over the American people to get votes?

It is interesting when you learn the facts, huh?

Re: Are illegals simply doing the jobs Americans won't do?

I know they work for less and most of them are legal that work for a company . The thing that I found interesting is that if you compare lets say 2 landscaping companies one uses American workers maily college and Highschool students the other uses Mexicans For the sake of arguement lets say they all have a green card. the quality of work by company #2 is 30-60% better than company #1 and they are faster and cheaper. Most of the housing industry here in Texas is currently using Mexican labor. They do good work and will work for a much lower wage than let us say a white guy with a High school ed. The problem is that much of the day labor is under the table as most have no SSN and are not here legaly, but that is not what is upsetting many people it is the fact that they will work so cheap 5.25 an hour where as a union guy wants 19-30 an hour and in many cases the quality is not as good. It is an issue that needs to be addressed but is not in my opinion as bad as if we deport illegals the housing construction bussinsess will die. It will just cost more for lawn care and houses and you will not get the quality you have come to expect for your dollar. Just my 2 cents Hmmmm actually that is $25

I heard a good statistic on the news today: over 45 billion dollars per years flows back to Latin America from the illegal workers in the U.S. Work for cheap here and live high back there. It has been that way for a long, long time.

Re: Are illegals simply doing the jobs Americans won't do?

Parisok,

Your reasoning is exactly why low income workers in America get screwed. Why do so many unions vote Democrat when it is Democrats that are pushing for an open border. Republicans are not much better, but at least they entertain the idea of a fence on the border where Democrats want a wide open border to secure more votes.

It sickens me that Libertarians are the only serious party on securing the border. I would vote Libertarian all the way if I knew it would make a difference. Until then I am stuck with two parties that are not serious on border security and protecting American citizens.

Go Minute Men!

Re: Are illegals simply doing the jobs Americans won't do?

I have to agree with you Mike as Unions seem to do nothing but drive up the price of American goods and I see that quality is lacking example Auto industry. The reason So many foriegn cars are being sold better workmanship, They look better & last longer (US cars are ment to last until Warrenty is up) Companies will not absorb the cost of increased wages they will pass them on with additional mark up and use the unioins as the scapegoats as to why the cost is so high. We also see the trend of farming out as much help desk, research and developement ect to companies that have wages at 1/2 the cost. We have created this beast now we must find a way to tame, destroy or just live with it. Trouble is what will happen in the end is a bigger gap between rich and poor and probably the middle class will fade away.
