Hydrogen Highway
Investing demands that I study many different areas of the market place. I have been paying attention to the hydrogen as fuel initiatives for many years now. The greatest resource we have on the planet are the oceans. The oceans could provide us the fuel to fuel the personal transportation we have built our infrastructure around. We have the technology today to make it happen, it needs serious capital investment. There are many hydrogen projects all over the world but the most interesting one continues to be the California Hydrogen Highway Project, at this link:
http://www.hydrogenhighway.ca.gov/ We are closer to being able to have hydrogen powered vehicles than many people are aware of. I remember Mike posted an article about BMW's new hydrogen powered, ICE (internal comb. engine)car. I am one of those who thinks hydrogen holds the only real solution for a fuel replacement for our current gasoline powered, personal transportation fleet. Leave the oil for the heavy movers, aircraft and manufacturing. The hydrogen highway link is a good place to gauge progress in this area.

Re: Hydrogen Highway

I was following these guys at United Nuclear for a few years. They actually designed a working system to run a vehicle on hydrogen. Their package included the station used at home to get the hydrogen fuel from tap water and the storage system they used is the metal hydride tank. It was rather expensive but it was workable. They were pretty close to being able to market it. They had even overcome the problems with hydrogen embrittlment associated with using pure hydrogen as fuel. They were shut down by our government. Now Honda has a similar system ready to bring to market. One has to wonder why our government shut down the United Nuclear guys. The storage methods for hydrogen are still problematic but the hydride method is really the only one that could currently be fielded as a working system. Carbon nano tubes hold the most promise for storage but they are a ways off. Seems to me if we have a system that works, it out to be marketed. every technology has a starting point in the market place.
