Iraqis: life is getting better
Why do I have a feeling only Fox News will show this poll over the coming days? Having good news come out of Iraq is like fresh air coming out of Michael Moore's A$$.
MOST Iraqis believe life is better for them now than it was under Saddam Hussein, according to a British opinion poll published today.

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
Good news from Iraq doesn't fit in with the mainstream media's anti-American line of thought. That's one reason why Fox News is gaining viewers and the networks are losing viewers, also why most newspapers are losing circulation at the expense of the Internet.

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
It's easy for the news to portray life in Iraq as bad. Bad news sells. But we know the great job our boys (and girls) are doing and that word will get out eventually. Keep up the good work!!

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
Fox Propaganda Network is not legitimate news. Furthermore, polls can easily be manipulated to show whatever the pollster wants to show. There is no information about where the poll was conducted, what the questions were and who was asked, as well as other circumstances, etc. Here's a comment from one person about this bogus poll:
The radically different results reported in this survey compared to that reported by USA Today/ABC News/BBC from a survey over roughly the same period prompted me to look at the survey methodology used by ORB (the Sunday Times Poll) versus that used by the firm that conducted the poll for various newspapers. Suffice to say that the ORB survey results are at least highly questionable on numerous grounds. These include the apparent political bias of the polling organization (judging from its website); the lack of detailed information about its sampling methodology; the absurdly large sample size, suggesting a lack of understanding that it is sampling selection not sample size that determines accuracy; the reliance on unnamed "partners" in Iraq to conduct the interviews; and the fact that ORB financed the survey independently, suggesting a lack of accountability to a client. However, since you put so much emphasis on polling, why don't you refer to the vast number of polls that overwhelmingly state the unpopularity of U.S. involvement in the Iraqi Civil War among the American people? The American people are sickened by this war, even more so than in Vietnam. They're also getting sick of the lies regularly broadcasted on the Fox Propaganda network. The war was a disaster from the very beginning and, of course, illegally prosecuted. It is a war for corporate and political profit and that's it. Don't romanticize it and make believe that "our boys" invaded that country and killed 100,000 innocent civilians in their massive "shock and awe" terror and bombing campaign because they are "fighting to defend our country." You can take that patriotic claptrap and shove it. They are paid merceniaries and Bush and his corporate paymasters are their pimps. So, are these war whores going to wake up and smell the coffee to realize that they've been conned, that the Bushie pimp has cheated and lied to them, or will they continue to be poor victims who rationalize their war crimes? Or maybe they're just content to collect their pay check every month and not question authority. Since you, like John McCain, live in a fantasy world state of denial concerning the reality of Iraq's Civil War, here's a little cartoon to amuse you: http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=22219 Also, you might take a look at some other polls outside of Fox Propaganda Network. This one is from the same news outlet, Times Online: "Life for Iraqis is Worse than Ever" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1640389.ece And yet another: "Poll: Iraqis Out of Patience" http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/i...ll-cover_x.htm "Poll: Most Americans Saying No One Winning in Iraq" http://edition.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS...ll2/index.html |

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
Yeah, Fox News is terrible. Those Communist Network News and Ihatebush.com sites you post from are so much more reputable. Thanks for sharing your expert opinion on what networks are trustworthy. I will go hire a 5 year old this week to build some site that look like the ones you post from. How about evilfoxnews.com? If I make it look like the ghetto site you post from will you believe it? Also, make sure you send that LT a note to prepare for prision because I hear he is pretty and a lot of guys are waiting for him.

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
I don't have any polls to quote or any websites to reference. Everything I am going to say is based on simple observations I've been making while here in Baghdad and my numerous daily conversations with Iraqis (that happen in the course of doing my job).
The only caveat I will offer is that most of the Iraqis with whom I interact are Shia Muslims - probably around 80-85%. Iraqis are happy that Saddam is no longer their leader. His reign was one of terror - you were either with him 100% (whether you liked what he was doing or not) ~ or you were incarcerated in terrible conditions or killed. Even though Saddam was a Sunni, to him it didn't matter whether you were a Sunni, Shia, or Christian ~ the only thing that mattered was that you toed the line that he drew. Anyone who didn't support him 100% was considered a threat and dealt with harshly. Iraqis are happy that the US took down Saddam. The mistake the Bush administration made is that it immediately dismissed all members of the Iraqi gov't, police, and military. This created a void in leadership and security, and this void eventually was filled by militant groups. Had the US only dismissed the senior leadership (hardcore Saddam followers) and left the rest intact, there never would have been a void in leadership and security (or only a very minimal one), and it would have been considerably easier to get the country running smoothly again. The fact is, many of Saddam's "supporters" only supported him because that was the only way to ensure a decent life for you family. They hated him just as much as those who publicly said they hated him - however, for the sake of survival, they chose not to say so. The sectarian violence was not that bad up until last year. The destruction of key mosques and killing of important religious figures - no doubt calculated operations - were what really elevated the violence to the point where many parts of Baghdad are now so dangerous, people are afraid to go outside unless they absolutely have to. Having said this, like any large city - there are dangerous places and there are safe places. In many neighborhoods, life is very good. Unfortunately, everyone can't live in the nice, safe neighborhoods. |

Re: Iraqis: life is getting better
Well said. Glad to hear from someone that is ACTUALLY there. Not from people that read propaganda on the internet and from news reporters reporting from Washington with an axe to grind. I am sure your comments will NOT be read by Kaf or immediately dismissed. Since you have first hand reporting that is tough to swallow for him. He likes 5th hand reporting and from websites that a child can build.
